Daniel Solander (1733-1782) föddes den 19 februari 1733 i Piteå Gammelstad (Öjebyn) som son till konrektorn vid Piteå trivialskola, sedermera kyrkoherden i Piteå landsförsamling Carl Solander (1699-1760) och dennes hustru Magdalena Bostadia Solander (1713-1789).
Solander var utåtriktad och skaffade sig en vid krets av inflytelserika vänner i London, som befordrade hans välgång.
Tidigare har bl a nordamerikanen Roy Rauschenberg tecknat Solanders levnad i "Daniel Carl Solander, naturalist on the Endeavour" (1968).

Solander was born in Piteå, Sweden and was the son of a Lutheran rector.
Solander helped make and describe an important collection of Australian plants while the Endeavour was beached at the site of present-day Cooktown for nearly 7 weeks, after being damaged on the Great Barrier Reef.
Solander invented the book-form box known as the Solander box which is still used in libraries and archives as the most suitable way of storing prints, drawings, herbarium materials and some manuscripts.

Daniel Solander (1733-1782) was born on 19 February 1733 in Old Piteå Town (Öjebyn) as the son of the headmaster at Piteå trivialschool, later vicar of Piteå parish Carl Solander (1699-1760) and his wife Magdalena Bostadia Solander (1713-1789).
However in the meantime Solander had fallen ill with malaria and been obliged to lodge with a cousin of his, who was married to a clergyman in Skåne.
Busts of Solander are to be found in Auckland, Sydney and London apart from the one at Uddmansgatan in Piteå.
