 Kure Beach won't take tax
The McComas measure would convert the Cape Fear Region Convention and Visitors Bureau into a tourism development authority and would allow the elected boards of Kure Beach, Carolina Beach and Wrightsville Beach to increase the sales tax on hotel rooms and rentals up to 3 cents on the dollar.
McComas said Friday that he had not yet seen the Kure Beach letter but has earlier correspondence from town officials saying they support his bill.
If the McComas and Wright bills were enacted and all the local boards exercised their full options, the total sales tax rate on a hotel room bill would be 12.5 percent.

Meanwhile, local elected officials nodded their heads as Wilmington-area Reps. Danny McComas and Thomas Wright agreed with committee members that the commissioners were conspicuously absent.
McComas, a Republican, told subcommittee Chairman Mary Jarrell, D-Guilford, that the commissioners haven't said they oppose his bill - which would raise the sales tax on hotel rooms in Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach and Kure Beach.
McComas' bill would create the authority and allow each of the three beach towns to levy a 3 percent tax on hotel stays.

People who are 18 years old and younger and are in school would not be required to purchase a license.

Pryor Gibson, D-Montgomery, said the House should accept the Senate's version because a delay to amend or negotiate was tantamount to killing the bill.
