Danny Ongais (born May 21, 1942) is a racecar driver from the United States.
A flamboyant figure on the racing circuit, Danny's nickname was "On-Gas" for his 'balls to the wall' driving style.
In 1996 at the age of 54, Ongais agreed to be the substitute driver for Scott Brayton in the Indy 500 who had died in a practice crash shortly before the race.

Danny’s struggles in F1 in 1978 — he scraped onto the grid for the first two Grands Prix in the works Ensign, then floundered with the embarrassing Interscope Shadow — were in sharp contrast to his rapidly blossoming career in USAC, where he took five wins in the Parnelli VPJ6.
Although Danny enjoyed further success for Interscope in IMSA sports car events, winning the 1979 Daytona 24 Hours in a Porsche, and taking third place the following year, this was the high point of his Indy Car career, as he was to suffer appalling leg injuries in a crash at Indianapolis in 1981.
Unfortunately for Danny, it was not a happy return, for he crashed heavily when the engine on his car blew during his first lap of qualifying, resulting in an overnight stay in hospital.
