Danshui [1] (淡水, or Tamsui) is a smaller city to the north of Taipei that was the center of shipping and commerce in northern Taiwan in the 19th century.
Danshui is most easily acccessed from Taipei by taking the MRT Danshui (Red) Line to it's northern end at Danshui Station.
Danshui Fisherman's Wharf is located further downstream from the town itself and offers a boardwalk, chic coffee shops, a slightly pricey seafood restaurant, and is a departure point for tourist boats traveling along Taiwan's scenic northeast coast.

The Sanying Line is planned as a further extension of Tucheng Line (Line 3) to the southwest of the city to link Sanhsia and Yingke with the current network.

The Taipei City Section of the Xinzhuang line extends northwards from Guting Station on the Zhonghe line to Hangzhou S. Rd. At the Xingtian Temple it turns west along Minquan East and West road, then passes under the Danshui River to Sanchong and Xinzhuang.
The Xinyi line is part of the long-term network of the Taipei MRT Project.
Passengers will be able to transfer to the Xindian line at CKS Memorial Hall Station, to the Xinzhuang line at Dongmen Station, and to the Muzha line at Daan Station.

Met her a couple of times that last time I was back, but never really got a chance to talk to her as we were usually out with a bunch of a-mah's.
DanShui is at the end of the subway's red line, about a 45-minute ride out.
I thought she lived along the blue line, but it turned out that she had to go back to Taipei Main Station to transfer back to the red line, plus she had class the next morning.

This a record of our journey up the Red MRT Line leading north out of Taipei.
The nighttime pictures were taken at Danshui's Fisherman's Wharf, accessible via a ferry or by bus from the MRT stop.
The bridge was newly recently constructed in these past months, and makes a terrific spot for taking pictures, especially at night.

In order to build the Muzha line, the only medium capacity transit system on the initial network, the East District Project Office (EDPO) was founded on Feb. 2, 1988 by the Department of Rapid Transit Systems (DORTS) of the Taipei City Government (TCG).
The eastern part of the Nangang line was completed in Dec. 2000, connecting the Muzha and Danshui lines, and ushering in a new era of metropolitan transportation in Taipei.
Having completed the Muzha line and the eastern section of the Nankang line, the EDPO is hard at work on the Neihu line.an extension of the Muzhua line.

Once the cars eventually get to Danshui they then have to find (and pay for) parking for the duration of their stay, and then have to battle the same type of traffic on the way home.
It is the intersection of the north-south Red line with the east-west Blue line.
I also knew that there were a number of ferry links across the river along it's main length from Danshui at its mouth all the way upstream past Taipei City.
