		It is the stunning computer-generated imagery, however, that blows your mind when "Dante’s Peak" finally erupts and huge clouds of burning ashes race towards the city, while steaming hot rivers of molten lava make an escape seemingly impossible.

		Dante's Peak is a textbook case of this -- formulaic to a fault, yet exceptionally thrilling.
		Many seem to have hashed "Volcano" which came out around the same time as "Dante's Peak" and it's a shame because both of them are highly realistic and te things that happen in them could literally happen in real life.
		In all honesty though, "Dante's Peak" is more realistic and has a more compelling twist to it due to the volcano's more destructive power.

		Actually the kind of lava that came out of Dante's Peak would have been a lot slower because it's Granitic lava.
		Dante's Peak showed characteristics of an explosive violent eruption, usually caused by the silica levels in the magma being high as well as having a high water and gas content.
		The most likely type of lava coming from Dantes Peak would be Rhyolitic lava which is high in Silica and therefore has less viscosity, making it runny!

		Not only are the sequences of freeway collapses and car crashes from "Peak", but many of the disintegrating brick and plaster buildings shown cracking and crashing about sure look like buildings from the town of Dantes Peak used in the film "Peak".

		Pierce Brosnan is Harry Dalton (no relation to Timothy, Brosnan’s “Bond” predecessor), a vulcanologist working for the US Geological Survey who’s sent to Dante’s Peak (in beautiful Washington State, we think) to basically rain on their parade.
		He doesn’t go, of course, and as we all know he’s been right all along and this spectacular mountain is about to go blooey and spew massive amounts of magma, ash, dust, mud, rocks and what have you, all over the lovely town of Dante’s Peak.
		Besides, at its worst, Dante’s Peak is far, far better than The Swarm, possibly the worst of the disaster flicks.
