On 17 August 1245, Danylo defeated a combined force of the Prince of Chernihiv, disaffected boyars, and Hungarian and Polish elements at Yaroslav and finally took the remainder of Galicia, thus reconstituting his father's holdings.
In the last years of his reign, Danylo engaged in dynastic politics, marrying a son and a daughter to the offspring of Mindovg of Lithuania and acquiring territorial concessions in Poland from the latter.

King Andrew II of Hungary styled himself rex Galiciae et Lodomeriae, Latin for "king of Halych and Volodymyr".
Danylo defeated the Polish and Hungarian forces in the battle of Yaroslav ( Jarosław) in 1245, but at the same time he was compelled to acknowledge, at least nominally, the supremacy of the Tatar Golden Horde.
King Casimir the Great of Poland took Halych, Belz, Kholm, Podolia and part of Volhynia; Gediminas of Lithuania took the remaining part of Volhynia and Podlachia.

Kievan Rus′ ( Ки́евская Ру́сь in Russian, Київська Русь — Kyivs'ka Rus in Ukrainian) was the early East Slavic ¹ state dominated by the city of Kiev (ru:Ки́ев;, uk:Ки́їв -- Kyiv), ( from about 860 to the middle of the 12th century.
According to the Normanist theory of the origins of "Rus′", this marked the beginnings of the state called "Kievan Rus′." In 907, Oleg led an attack against Constantinople, and in 911 he signed a commercial treaty with the Byzantine Empire as an equal partner.
Kievan Rus′ was not able to maintain its position as a powerful and prosperous state, in part because of the amalgamation of disparate lands under the control of a ruling clan.

In 1245, Danylo, a minor at the time of his father's death in 1205, defeated the united armies of Poland and Hungary and reunited with the principality the lands which had been captured by them.
Prince Danylo, after agreeing to a union with the Roman Church, was crowned king at Dorohychyn in 1253, using a crown donated by Pope Innocent VI.
It should be noted that both Danylo and Leo recognized the supremacy of the Golden Horde, which threatened to destroy the principality.
