She replaced the famous "Dar Pomorza" ("Gift of Pomerania"), built in 1909 as a training ship for the German Merchant Marine, which, after a few changes of name and nationality was bought by the Gdynia Academy in 1930.
Dar Mlodziezy was commissioned in 1982 to replace the Dar Pomorza.
Dar Mlodziezy was funded by the contributions of elementary school children during the 1960s and 1970s.
