The new Dare album, well......what have they done to Walk on Water, When I first heard that track, on the B-side of some single from "Blood From Stone", I thought to myself that is the best song I have ever heard.
Though at first listen, the album seems to be a true return to the melodic groundwork Dare first laid out with 1989's "Out Of The Silence", closer listening reveals that the band, (still led by former Thin Lizzy keyboardist, Darren Wharton,), have continued to develop in the ensuing years.
On the whole the album is a worthy release, combing the best elements of the bands first two albums with a new sense of refinement and maturity.

Dare have always been a class act and their previous three albums reflect that.
Belief is the fourth album from Dare - and the follow-up to the excellent 'Calm Before The Storm'.
The whole album seems made for American radio: the songs (written mainly by Darren with occasional assistance from guitarist Richard Dews) are worthy of frequent airplay.

Howerver, moving away from the negative points of this album, i can say that it is a relief from the usual rock that we have grown so used to from other rock bands of late.
If you are a solid Dare fan then i feel you will appreciate this album, however if you are buying this album because of what you have heard of theirs in the 80's, you may be a little more than surprised.
With the release of their next album "Blood from Stone" a more straight ahead rock sound was taken which was not to the taste of all the fans and indeed the band.

Very good album, but I kinda expect Dare albums to be a religious-type experience and this one falls a little short (as I think Belief also did after repeat listenings).

This album was a must for disc jockeys who wanted to be creative and mixed the vocal versions with the instrumentals.
But "Dare" was really the first album to the art/rock sensibility of the earlier work and marry it to disco/pop.
While each song on this album is a hit in its own right (if not charted as such), remember that it was widely received by the music industry as a benchmark album.

This album is one reason why I enjoyed listening to hip hop back in the days: because of the originality displayed by the artist, and the production was off the hook.

Sorted magAZine: The Human League - Travelogue/Reproduction
The Human League are, of course, famed for the "Dare" album and THAT song, but less well know about them is that "Dare" was preceded by two albums in their own way as important as that synthpop masterpiece.
Through both albums there's a strong thread of humour, whether it be the futurist nightmare about a new record (the now even more humorously out-dated 'The Black hit of space') on "Travelogue" or 'Empire state human' on "Reproduction", the classic track about wanting to be tall, tall, tall that's still regularly played in alternative clubs.
Much has been written about how influential these albums were, basically writing much of the template for the emergence of the various forms of dance music in early '80s Detroit.

Their debut album, I Dare You, is soberly confronting and focused, inspired by personal life experiences that intensify the group’s essence.
Scarlett has something to say in refreshing down-to-earth tones, but what comes through most clearly in the music is that the members have a love for a God that has shown up strong in their lives.

The Human League had shown much of this on their early singles, such as "The Lebanon," but on Dare!
That doesn't mean that the album isn't arty, since it certainly is, but that's part of its power -- the self-conscious detachment enhances the postmodern sense of emotional isolation, obsession with form over content, and love of modernity for its own sake.
The latter was a huge hit, so much so that it overshadowed the album in the minds of most listeners, yet, for all of its shining brilliance, it wasn't a pop supernova -- it's simply the brightest star on this record, one of the defining records of its time.

By the time Godley and Creme had made the decision to leave the 10cc ranks, the band was already well on the way to becoming one of the most successful British recording acts of the Seventies.
By 1976, however, musical differences were beginning to raise their head within the band and later in the year 10cc effectively broke into half, with Godley and Creme pursuing their own joint careers as a recording duo (most notably with the Top 10 singles, Under Your Thumb and Wedding Bells), and as successful video producers.

Drawing on diverse influences from Cole Porter to Michael Stipe, as woven with the distinct local flavors of his various hometowns, Little's blend of cinematic lyrics and winding melodies are unmistakeably his own.
His debut solo album, "Dare To Be Small," produced by Richard McLaurin (Billy Jo Shaver, Malcom Holcombe), and Neilson Hubbard (Garrison Starr, Mack Starks) is set for a late April, 2005 release, and is already drawing comparisons to the poetic musings and pop productions of Wilco and Elliot Smith.
A refreshing departure from the steady stream of acoustic roots albums manufactured by Music City singer-songwriters, "Dare To Be Small" exchanges mandolins and fiddles for quirky loops and analog synths, using moody and spacious production techniques to compliment his arresting voice and quirky stories of love and life lost.
