 The Complete Frank Miller Daredevil
The Elektra story is both character and genre-defining: To paraphrase Miller himself on the Daredevil movie DVD (worth getting just for the excellent creators’ documentary on the second disk), this was rape and murder in a medium which people had hitherto assumed was the exclusive domain of kids and their wish-fulfilment fantasies.
But whereas the cinematic DKR revelled in the grandeur of superheroics (becoming a major influence on all subsequent film adaptations of the caped crusader and his four-colour brethren), Daredevil: Born Again is the comparatively awkward relation, intent on stripping away the various elements of super-hero comics and their genre conventions.
Whilst all three succeed on their merits, the Born Again arc should not stand in the shadow of its contemporaries and be overlooked for its contribution to the medium and the industry as a whole.

SPLICEDwire | "Daredevil" review (2003) Mark Steven Johnson, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner
In one early scene Daredevil takes lethal vengeance on a scumball rapist who got off in court (Murdock had represented the victim), yet when our hero meets Elektra, he comes on to her very physically and intrusively, even when she literally struggles away from him, saying, "I don't like being followed.
Between the nanosecond attention-span editing, the flashes of radar-vision and the use of heavy rain effects and/or strobe lighting, it's almost impossible to follow any of the fights until they're over and one combatant is lying face down.
Even at its passably entertaining best, "Daredevil" is a forgettable, assembly-line effort with a cast of "hot" young stars picked for their marketability, not their talent (something "Spider-Man" had in spades).

As the title character of "Daredevil," Ben Affleck leaps, wriggles, and -- mostly -- strikes iconic poses, standing against the New York skyline in what's meant to be a very cool superhero-of-the-night outfit.
Daredevil lost his sight in his geek youth, when he was doused by a spurt of bio-waste (his back is laced with scars).
For anyone who goes to see ''Daredevil,'' the light at the end of the tunnel may be the hope that franchise fever finally fades -- at least, if the food is all this junky.

Blinded as a child, Matt Murdock (Ben Affleck) is a lawyer by day and a vigilante in red leather by night, his sightless world mitigated by heightened senses and agility—not that one needs a superhuman olfactory apparatus to catch the reek of this would-be franchise starter.
Dubbed "the man without fear," the Daredevil nevertheless has doubts about his avenger's zeal to clean up Hell's Kitchen (controlled by Michael Clarke Duncan's nefarious Kingpin), which means a lot of Rodin-inspired vogueing on the precipices of the vertical city and periodic visits to the confessional.
Affleck and impressively amazonian Alias star Jennifer Garner (as the ninjitsu-savvy daughter of a wealthy tycoon) are lankier than Spider-Man's Maguire and Dunst, which is good if you like lanky, but their relationship substitutes cliché for chemistry.

Daredevil is well matched with the dynamic Elektra (Jennifer Garner), but their teaming is as shallow as the movie itself, which is peppered with Marvel trivia and cameo appearances (creator Stan Lee, Clerks director and Daredevil devotee Kevin Smith) and enough computer-assisted stuntwork to give Spidey a run for his money.
The CGI problems with the virtual Daredevil remain from the theatrical release, but the movie looks great as a whole, and while I didn't find this version better, I found it overall to be just as good as the theatrical release and definitely something worth adding to the collection.
This is totally logical, as the sightless Daredevil would have the advantage when his sighted rivals would be almost as visually handicapped as he is. `Daredevil' also has the added value of at least three very human relationships.
