At night, he is Daredevil, a masked vigilante stalking the dark streets of the city, a relentless avenger of justice.
The concept of Daredevil was interesting as well as what drives him and his lifestyle, but just something overall in the picture lacked considerably.
Daredevil is on top of a church building and we see a stream of blood dripping down the face of the building.

Daredevil movie review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-24)
Martial arts movies and superhero comics always did have a great deal in common: fights as balletic metaphors for communication; gravity as a guideline rather than a law; 'justice' as a fig-leaf with which to justify extreme violence; plot as hook on which to hang a series of fight scenes.
The movie is, of course, heavily under the influence of the seminal issues which Frank Miller drew in the early 80s.
In the comic, Daredevil's father is killed by a relatively anonymous gangster, which motivates him to pursue vigilante justice for the rest of his life.

Daredevil represents one of the first real tests for the burgeoning line of Marvel Comics adaptations.
Daredevil himself (Ben Affleck) has a neat hook: he's blind, his eyes rendered useless by the obligatory ruptured drum of radioactive sludge.
Daredevil continues that encouraging trend, not only in the story and themes, but in the use of actors who, while well-known, don't guarantee huge openings with their name above the credits.

It almost pains me to do this because the Daredevil character kicks ass, but this movie is a turd; not a pile of shit like you might be thinking, but more along the lines of a two-flush corn log.
This has seriously got to be the dumbest "bad guy" in a movie since the gimpy dude from Panic Room (that dog shit movie with the obnoxious bigender kid and her mom, played by Jodie Foster, where they spend the whole two-hour duration of the movie hiding from a limping cripple...
They spent all of 3 minutes on Daredevil's background, 45 minutes on a stupid fight scene between Daredevil and some random chick who was introduced so abruptly that she might as well have landed in the scene with a parachute.

Indeed, the February release of the movie is telling, as movie studios rarely release movies they're confident in at this time of year.
In the movie, however, he instead sees that his father is working as a mob enforcer (previous protestations to the contrary), and the boy runs away, devastated.
Instead of ending the movie after that fight, there's an awkward final showdown between Daredevil and the Kingpin, which is straight out of the cheesy Spider-Man version of the Kingpin, rather than the master manipulator Kingpin that Miller gave us in Daredevil that made the character a force to be reckoned with.

Based on the writing in DAREDEVIL, Greg Cox has some skill as an author, but he falls into traps that often snare tie-in writers; unable to figure out a way to beef up the narrative presented in the screenplay, he leans on internal monologue and overly-florid prose to fill pages.
Great fans of the film upon which DAREDEVIL is based might enjoy this novelization, but those who haven't seen the movie, or who may have picked up DAREDEVIL in an attempt to get pleasure from the book on its own merits, won't find anything about which to get excited.
This is all the more disappointing due to the fact that Daredevil is a fascinating character about whom better stories have been told with even less space than in a 250-page novel.

Some movies feel like they were written by a person, some like they were written by a committee.
But that's why they frequently suck as the basis for movies (same for video games), because when you put all that pastiche back into one of the forms it has been vampirically feeding off of, it just seems lifeless and derivative.

Daredevil is well matched with the dynamic Elektra (Jennifer Garner), but their teaming is as shallow as the movie itself, which is peppered with Marvel trivia and cameo appearances (creator Stan Lee, Clerks director and Daredevil devotee Kevin Smith) and enough computer-assisted stuntwork to give Spidey a run for his money.
Johnson was required by his contract to provide a PG-13 movie and, as a result, he had to reshuffle the movie a bit cutting out much of the subplot as well as trimming down the more intense fight sequences of the film.
Johnson points out in the featurette that he considers "Daredevil" to still be flawed movie and while he may be right, restoring the first R rated version certainly makes this film stronger.

Like many heroes of the Marvel and DC comics, Daredevil is a hero driven by rage and a taste for revenge that stems back to a tragic event in his past.
Daredevil is painted on a much smaller canvas than Spider-Man. This movie is also much darker in tone, although it isn't without it's tongue and cheek moments.

As you may well have noticed, superhero movies are currently All The Rage, thanks to the phenomenal successes of both X-Men (to which a sequel is due later this year) and Spider-Man.
In terms of release dates, then, this is the perfect time to release Daredevil, with the studios hoping to catch some of that superhero-hungry cash, before the big guns come out for the summer — the publicity campaign has been pretty intensive up to now and shows no signs of abating.
Ironically, what the film lacks is more of Daredevil swinging around the city, Spider-Man-style (he carries an all-purpose ‘billy club’, which is, oddly, never named in the film).
