Dario Argento is a filmmaker who has worked almost exclusively in the horror genre.
Argento had written for Sergio Leone and was well acquainted with the unique sub-genre Americans dubbed Spaghetti Western and he attempted to blend that aesthetic with the style of Peckinpah's THE WILD BUNCH in a film that was never intended for any but Italian audiences.

The caller continued, even going as far as telling Argento that he knew the police were involved and that he'd have the director's skin anyway.
Argento manages to pull off some incredible shots, including a long Louma crane sequence where the camera pans over an entire house in intimate close-up before showing the killer sneaking in through a window.

Variety had this to say on the upcoming Dario Argento movie: "Italo horror maestro Dario Argento is set to shoot 'The Mother of Tears,' a tale of witches and suicides in contempo Rome being billed as episode three of the helmer's cult "Three Mothers" trilogy.

While the cinematography is pure Argento, much of the rest of the atmospheric trappings that make Argento films so wonderful are missing; most notably, the music is nowhere near the quality Argento got when working with Goblin.
The story is about a distraught anorexic played by Asia Argento whose life turns upside down when she witnesses the murder of her parents including the decapitation of her psychic mother played by Piper Laurie I must say that her performance was way over the top check out that hilarious sceance.
This Dario Argento movie is not as bad as people say it is. But it's definately not his best film.

Undoubtedly his most successful thriller was "Deep Red", where David Hemmings spots the killer on the scene of a murder without realising it, only then to become the next target as the victims pile-up.
The lack of cinema releases for Dario's later product, along with a decline in budgets available to him, and then some frankly poor films in the 90s, saw Dario's star fade somewhat.
The release of his latest film "Sleepless" is a return to his form of old, but sadly not yet to UK cinemas, despite a healthy European box office.
