The SF Site Featured Review: The Dark Tower: The Drawing of the Three
And there are countless others visited in brief, a stewardess whose paranoid recollections of airline terror-training prompt her to action, a mafia leader who likes to build towers from decks of cards, a man who experiences sexual pleasure when he completes elaborate missions to covertly inflict harm.
The Encyclopedia of Fantasy circa 1997 (and in relation to the first three books) describes The Dark Tower series as taking place in "a bleakly fantasticated, underpopulated landscape of the future...

The tracks sounded sparse and totally directionless, and after a few more listens the ambient they created would fill the room with memories of dead cities, vague recollections of dreams and morrowful aspirations from brave men trying to survive in a society full of closed doors, lost opportunities, and slightly unreachable dreams...
Making the transition from the pure dark ambient back to the idm, here is a 4 track ep of idm goodness by the owner of Apegnine Recordings which incidently recently debuted with a nice limited edition compilation CD which you should most defnitly also check out.

In the essay “Recollections of Bengal and a Single Vision”, Shampa Banerjee offers an interesting anecdote from Dopati Chakrabarty about the relationship between the cinemas of Ray and Ghatak:

Cook Islands - Recollections of Penrhyn (Tongareva Island)
Death in every form is always near to Penrhyn; death in the dark waters of the lagoon, death from the white terror of leprosy, and death of the hands of men but quarter civilised, whose fingers are always itching for the ready knife.
The windward side of Penrhyn is uninhabited; the sea that breaks in blinding white foam upon the untrodden strand, wreathed with trailing vines of vivid green, is never broken by a sail.
There were nine lepers in all upon the island; but the other five either could not, or did not wish to leave their huts, and the agent refused to break the quarantine any further than he had already done.

 Newsletter ...10-8-2002
Ajarn Sulak Sivaraksa for years was a much-criticized, crystal clear voice for positive social change and human rights during the dark days of military dictatorship in Thailand.
By reconsidering and returning to the traditional values of Thai Buddhism, and by embracing "engaged buddhism" as a social and activist model, Ajarn Sulak believes that Thais can regain some of the qualities of Thai life which now exist mostly as sentimental recollections.
Sulak Sivaraksa precieves with crystal clarity the cancers that are inside all of us -- greed, anger, mistrust, hate, ignorance, indifference -- and demonstrates how they infect our entire world on a global scale.

 Blogcritics.org: Passage by Connie Willis
Particularly confounding is the fact that many of her patients recollections of being aboard the Titanic in its last moments at sea during their NDEs clash with Mandrake's idea of the warm, bright light as the universal near-death phenomenon.
The novel itself is well-written and quite funny, often juxtaposing the dark and depressing with the blithely humorous, a technique Willis has used in previous novels to similarly excellent effect.
Willis clearly intended to elevate the finale of the story to a metaphysical level, but the revelations presented in the final chapters only serve to undercut much of what has come before.

 NARC - Production Notes
Joe Carnahan, who grew up around Detroit, wanted to set “Narc” in that area because his recollections of the Michigan city were very dark, industrial and cold, a feeling he believes lends itself perfectly to this kind of story.
To writer/director Joe Carnahan, the arduous journey of having “Narc” come to fruition was like a phoenix rising, and as far as he is concerned, “Ray Liotta really pulled it from the ashes,” throwing himself into the project and going to bat to get it financed.
Producer Nabatoff couldn’t agree more, adding that “Narc” was probably one of the hardest films to get off the ground, but also one of the most gratifying projects with which she’s ever been involved.

After two demos which were widely distributed in cassette form, the group recorded their only bona fide record, 1990's Dark Recollections with new members, vocalist Matt Karki, guitarist David Blomkuist, and drummer Fred Estby.
Sweden's Carnage were spawned by the same small, close-knit scene which gave birth to Entombed in the late '80s.
Fueled by the booming death metal underground tape trading network, the group infused the lessons of American acts, like Death and Morbid Angel, with the sounds of British grind core exponents, like Napalm Death and Carcass, to create a somewhat unique niche all their own.
