Stones of Wonder - tips on watching the sun and moon at the solstices, equinoxes, standstills
As the days pass, the moon wanes again to a crescent, all the while getting closer to the sun, until at last it rises in the east shortly before the sun, and is visible for only a short period (Figure 7).
The full moon nearest to midwinter is always the highest and longest shining full moon of the year, and everyone has experienced bright moonlit frosty nights around the winter holiday.
The contrast in rising positions and the time that the moon is in the sky at those two times of year is very marked, and would not have been missed by people who spent most of their lives out of doors.

 The Moon
The phases of the moon are caused by the relative positions of the earth, sun, and moon.
Because the "horns" of the moon at the ends of the crescent are always facing away from the setting or rising sun, they always point upward in the sky.
However, if you slowly spin the "moon" on its trip around the "earth", you will see that you can time it so only one side of the "moon" is ever seen from the "earth".

Ground and Sky review - Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
The songs all explore the dark side of human existence; greed, death, xenophobia, and madness all have songs dedicated to them.
Dark Side of the Moon represents Floyd's first full-scale immersion into the art of the pessimistic symphony, an endeavor they would strive to recreate in different forms for the remainder of Roger Waters' tenure manning the helm of the band.
The fact is, though, that Dark Side of the Moon is both a landmark of modern music and an album that remains popular across several generations.

Dark Side of the Moon, when considered as a piece of art, was always intended for higher consciousness listening.
In comparison to the CDs I have of Dark Side, it is consistent, but it doesn’t show the same audio improvement that I heard on the SACD surround mix on other parts of the record.
More evident than on the CD mix of Dark Side is the spoken word vocal saying, “There is no dark side of the moon.” I had never really paid attention to this line during the previous thousands of times I have heard the record.

While it is wrongly hailed as the original "concept" album, Dark Side of the Moon has easily outlasted rival claimants to the title and, 30 years after its release, continues to hit the senses like a thunderclap.
The year before Dark Side, Jethro Tull's extravagant Thick as a Brick was a hit, and David Bowie's interplanetary bisexuality was the motif on Ziggy Stardust.
Dark Side was not groundbreaking, but it has an undeniable presence: when music writers and radio announcers talk about a "timeless classic", Dark Side is a template.

Astronomy : Dark side of the moon
The planet Pluto and its moon Charon are the only example of mutual tidal locking in the solar system — they both spin at the same speed and always show the same face to each other.
If our moon's rotation slowed even more, say to 29 or 30 days, then the tides would transfer energy from the orbit to the spin and it would accelerate back to 28 days (and it would get closer to the Earth).
Actually, the Moon wobbles slightly due to its slightly non-circular orbit, so that a few degrees of the far side can be seen from time to time, however the majority of the far side was completely unknown until the Soviet spacecraft Luna 3 photographed it in 1959.
