Dark Skies only actually ran for one season (sound familiar?) and appeared shortly after the X-Files had revolutionized hollywood's perception of sci-fi.

Dark Skies - TV Programs Shopping at dooyoo.co.uk
DARK SKIES was a fantastic science fiction show which only lasted for one season (1996-1997).
Advantage: stylish, dark and edgy, the sort of show that one feels compelled to watch week after week.
Disadvantage: the end of the final episode, with a voice-over by a much older Loengard, is dismal, but can hardly be blamed on the show’s writers who were probably trying to do their best given the circumstances.
