Once you are in Curload find a brick built cottage called Laurel Cottage and follow the rough farm entrance track next to this property to Hook Bridge, where there is limited parking, and the bird was in fields on the opposite side of the river at the side of Turkey Cottage.
The Thrush was feeding out in the open towards the far end of this track, giving good scope views.

This yielded orange-headed thrush, white-bellied drongo and a spectacular male blue-capped rock-thrush.
Birding was very slow but still we got some of the colourful birds like the magnificent red-billed blue magpie, rufous sibia, green-backed tit, Himalaya bulbul, the cute blue-capped redstart and the enormous lammergeyer and Himalayan griffons mixed in the flocks of steppe eagles.
Some of the highlights are Himalayan woodpeckers, dark-throated thrushes, spot-winged tit, the tiny yellow-browed tit and a white-tailed nuthatch.

A splendid Black-throated Thrush Turdus ruficollis atrogularis was discovered by Björn Arnarson and Yann Kolbeinsson in fish-drying racks at Leira/Reykjanes peninsula (SW-Iceland), on 13th November 2005.
Below is a fine selection of photographs taken while the bird was feeding on the ground.
This is Iceland's first-ever record of Dark-throated Thrush (Turdus ruficollis ssp).

The male Black Throated Thrush was seen within 5 minutes and was watched on and off for an hour.
Superb fl throat, although on close inspection quite an area of white flecking.
The Thrush was very hostile to a local male Blackbird.

We cross the little footbridge and walk through a village, taking the trail up to the summit where we can look down on the river and both lodges.
From the tower we have great eye-level looks at an Alexandrine Parakeet and look down at a grumpy Jungle Owlet that abandons his perch, flashing the rufous of his wings, only to return to it some minutes later.

Indian Rollers with their brilliant cobalt and dark blue plumage in flight were spectacular and made up for the more drab Paddyfield Pipits.
Blue Whistling Thrushes could be seen along the edge of the road along with the occasional Himalayan Bulbul.
Returning back down the hill Dark-throated Thrushes, Red-billed Blue Magpies and Oriental Turtle Turtles were all seen very well and we did find a couple of Hill Partridges much to the delight of everyone.

March 04 2006: Only nine weeks since it was first found..
The last one I saw - when it was definitely a species called Black-throated Thrush - was skulking under a bush in the Middle East one winter when I was - well, blimey, not quite a small boy but quite a long time ago I can tell you.
Anyway, full species/half a species/race/sub-species or whatever, I finally got to see a feather-perfect male today - a full nine weeks after it turned up.

Commonly seen on the Jomsom trek with an estimated 1000 birds seen at Poon Hill one afternoon, all of the Black throated form.
Two of the red throated form at Marpha.
A bird seen extremely well at Phulchowki looked identical plumage wise to Rufous throated Wren Babbler (Spelaeornis caudatus) but clearly couldn't be as it was well out of range.

Whe I had it on Dec 29th it was feeding on hawthorn buds for a few minutes - difficult to make out whether it was taking bugs in the buds or the buds themselves.

Dragging ourselves away from the avian delights for a few hours, we popped over to Agra to see the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, and even here we were able to look at Egyptian Vultures, River Lapwing, Marsh Sandpiper and Temminck?s Stints on the foetid-looking Yamuna River.
A Savanna Nightjar was watched hawking and perching on the ground, while Indian Nightjars favoured grassy areas and we watched two emerging at dusk.
In the rather hot midday periods, our hotel garden was a haven for a splendid male Red-breasted Flycatcher, Blue Rock Thrush and White-browed Fantails.

 Trip Report - India
It was light by 6:30am and dark by 6:30pm which made it ideal for at least 10 hours a day birding.
We breakfasted early on scrambled eggs on toast with lots of coffee in a vain attempt to ward off the rigours of last nights train journey.
Dave had had enough and retired to his bed for a couple of hours of shut eye before we took our jeep safari into the park at 14:00.

Some other trip highlights were seeing 3 Wallcreepers (not new), 7 Pallas's (Great Black-headed) Gulls in breeding plumage all together (sitting and flying) and the threatened Hoary-throated Barwing feeding at eye level.
We also saw 2 birds listed as Bhutan vagrants: Chestnut Thrush (male at two different locations) and White-backed (Kessler's) Thrush (12 including a few females and another male three days later at a different location).
There are two books you can use and both are by the three authors: Carol Inskipp, Tim Inskipp and Richard Grimmett.
