In the northern one-third of the county, yields from the underlying carbonate bedrock are similar to those from the sand and gravel deposits.
Even though two of these wells were developed in the limestone underlying Darke County, and these wells are in the range of 72 to 230 feet deep, some variation exists in the concentrations of each of these chemical constituents.

 Darke County Fair
Greenville, as the county seat, was selected for geographic reasons and thus the initial fair was held on the former Annie Oakley Festival grounds immediately east of Garst museum.
In the decades of the Darke fair, the United States has been involved in no less than seven wars in which over 642,000 men and women lost their lives to battle deaths, a number of them from Darke County.
In 1862 and 1863 the fair was cancelled because the county was embroiled in pitting brother against brother in the Civil War.

This listing is not intended to imply other Darke Countians didn't serve in other units, nor does this list intend to imply all members of companies listed here were from Darke Co. But the bulk of these individuals were Darke Countians and recruited in Darke Co.
From a wall of photographs at the Darke Co. Court House which memorialize certain survivors of the War (a display no doubt sponsored by the local GAR chapter), Adele Corbin has determined that certain companies were largely made up of Darke Countians because these companies are often named with the survivors' photographs.
Since it is our intention to only provide a listing of Darke Countians who served in the Civil War (we are not developing regimental histories), the names are being alphabetized in one list noting in which Company and Regiment the individuals served.

This 32-acre park located between Ansonia and Union City on Young Road south of State Route 47 is a typical Darke County woodland with a diverse mixture of hickory, oak, beech, and maple featuring a well-marked, half-mile walkway.
The Greatest County Fair in the World features a huge midway, numerous 4-H activities, free entertainment, harness racing, a demolition derby, tractor pull, motorcycle races and much more during its nine-day run starting the third Friday of August each year.
This Darke County Historical Society museum features memorabilia about Annie Oakley and world famous radio broadcaster Lowell Thomas, along with historic artifacts relating to Anthony Wayne and the Treaty of Greene Ville, and Native American artifacts.
