		The fluid nature of the Mary Chain's line up continued throughout their entire career, with a revolving door of drummers, bassists and guitarists being recruited for TV (Broadcasting visual images of stationary or moving objects) appearances and gigs whenever they were required, the only constants being the Reid brothers.
		Following the tour to support the album and the release of another compilation of odds-n-sods, The Sound of Speed, they returned to the studio to record their fifth album proper, the largely acoustic Stoned & Dethroned which would see release in 1994 (additional info and facts about 1994).
		Their debut album Psychocandy, along with the Cocteau Twins (additional info and facts about Cocteau Twins), was a huge influence on the British Shoegazing (additional info and facts about Shoegazing) movement of the late '80s as well as on numerous American bands.

		A revolutionary album when it first appeared in the mid-eighties, 'Psychocandy' and Jesus And Mary Chain later went onto be an influence on the likes of Ride, The Pixies, Sonic Youth and other innovative guitar bands circa the early nineties.
		Darklands is where the JAMC fully reveal the warped rock and soul constructions that are bouncing around in their heads, and like you said, they don't bury it in Psychocandy's awe-inspiring distortion.
		This album is so genius that the rock world is still behind in tapping it's DIY creative potential although the Pixies, Nine Inch Nails, BRMC, The Raveonettes, Oasis, and even Arap Strap (to name a few) have tried very hard to tap it's magic at times.

		"DARKLANDS will be no different _ the problems and tasks the gamer will face are straight from the events and attitudes of Medieval Germany." 15th Century Germany was a time of violence and corruption and was an era with three Popes simultaneously in charge, powerless emperors, gangster nobles and venal clergymen.
		DARKLANDS recreates this period and emphasizes the beliefs of the time: witches worshipping the devil, people praying to saints to produce real miracles, alchemists turning lead into gold and dragons inhabiting caves.
		DARKLANDS was on almost since the beginning and at one point around the time of the release of the FAQ was climbing from the mid-eighties to the mid-sixties.

		A number of the songs on "Darklands" speak of the pleasure and pain of being with the one you love.

		The band grace end-of-the-year polls again but the album's sound was quickly aging with stiff drum machine sounds and by the beginning of the nineties the album was badly out-dated.
		The album gets great reviews and the band's public image is high again after a long silence (and their latest album being quite out dated compared to the standards of rock in the early 90's).

		Feeling no doubt burdened by the various claims of being the new Sex Pistols, and likely fed up with accusations that the walls of feedback were their own trick, the Reid brothers underwent a bit of a rethink with Darklands.
		The end result must have fallen squarely between two camps -- hardly eligible for sunny commercial airplay, not quite as flailing as the earliest efforts -- but, from a distance, this is an appealing, enjoyable record.
		Songs were often longer while the album itself was shorter than Psychocandy, walls of sound were often stripped away in favor of calmer classic rock twang and groove, while William Reid took the lead vocal at points, showing he had a slightly sweeter, wistful tone in comparison to his brother.

		It's ironic that this was the last album for The Jesus and Mary Chain because it was a real return to form of sorts.
		Cut about 4-5 songs of this album and rearrange the order of the songs, this album would have been one of the greatest of the 90's.
		After hearing albums like Stoned and Dethroned, Speed Of Sound and I Hate Rock N Roll it seemed that the Chain were running on fumes until they gave it one last hoorah in Munki.

		Darklands boasted a bunch of tunes that Brian Wilson himself would have been delighted to have written (indeed, in "Cherry Came Too", it boasted at least one "Surfin' Safari", to be specific--that Brian Wilson already had written, but the Mary Chain have always had the sense to steal from the best).
		Captures everything the Mary Chain were all about...from sublime West Coast pop to Doug Yale era Velvets...absolutely superb...never has a Scottish band produced such a quality album.

		To others who only have the Fat of the land album...try checking out their other album or gasp download "voodoo people" and if you like that song get the new album you will dig it.
		When I saw them previously, when they only had a single album released, and a questionable and largely fair-weather fan-base, they impressed the hell out of me with their tremendous intensity in a live setting.
		I speculate that it’s because this album and tour is sans Christine McVie and since she isn’t around to do her slow, singy piano crap that allowed more time for “Gypsy” and “Go Insane”.

		In spite of these "accepted" roles both brothers are nothing short of multi-instrumentalists, having recorded guitars, bass, keyboards, drums, percussion, programmed drum machines and samples, and sung lead and backing vocals on the band's albums and singles.
		Later on, in the '90s, he had a band called Revolution 9, he played on The Ecstacy Of St. Theresa's first album, introduced Absinthe to the UK and in 1998 formed Black Box Recorder with whom he has released several albums.
		Terry also plays on two songs on the Munki album and has recorded a very entertaining EP of instrumental versions of Jesus And Mary Chain songs called Terry Edwards Plays The Music Of Jim And William Reid.
