 UGO Screenwriter's Voice - News -- September 9, 2003
The film, the feature debut for writer Danny McBride and director Len Wiseman, stars Kate Beckinsale as Selene, a female vampire/warrior who falls in love with a human (Scott Speedman) being hunted by werewolves.
According to a press release issued by White Wolf, the company and Collins have identified over 60 points of unique similarity between the film and their work, and are seeking immediate injunctive relief and damages from the parties named in the suit.
The crew recently reformed (sort of...some of it was done remotely) to film new sketches for the special edition DVD that came out last Tuesday.

 Darkness Falls (2003)
Trivia: The film went through five titles ("The Tooth Fairy", "Don't Peek", "Fear of the Dark", "The Tooth Fairy: The Ghost of Matilda Dixon" and "The Tooth Fairy: Every Legend Has Its Dark Side") before it became Darkness Falls (2003).
Darkness Falls (2003) is a case where my rating has gone up quite a bit since my last encounter with it.
Although I'm not usually a fan of modern films having shorter running times (it was more understandable back in the days of literal A and B films on the same bill at a theater), Darkness Falls is compact because there is little "dead time" between the suspenseful material.

"It's almost become a rite of passage for teenage girls," says Tom Sherak, co-founder of Revolution Studios, which saw surprising success with 2003's Darkness Falls.
Analysts and studio executives say girls and women are driving the success of recent horror films, sometimes accounting for as much as 60% of the audience.
Teenage girls are drawn to a film by ads "more than by the plot, even the stars.

 DVD Times - Boogeyman
They (2002) and Darkness Falls (2003) not only used the same plotline, they both opened with effectively the same scene and they both featured the same gimmick of creatures that dwelt in darkness and shadows.
If this sounds a wee bit familiar, perhaps it's because Boogeyman is the third horror film in three years in which a monster from a child's bedroom returns to terrorise him in later life.
The Boogeyman itself is a very poor monster: a nameless CGI Thing that jumps out and grabs people.

 Emily Browning
She went on to play young Caitlin Green in another American horror film, Darkness Falls (2003), and Heath Ledger's younger sister Grace in Ned Kelly (2004), which, although it was an Australian film, was released worldwide.
But it was her role in the American-funded horror film Ghost Ship (2002), filmed in Australia, that put Emily on the Hollywood radar.
Emily lives in Melbourne with her parents and younger brothers Nicholas and Matthew.

The studio started the year with National Security which flopped, then they made a little cash off Darkness Falls, then came Tears, which was followed up by the god awful and expensive Basic with John Travolta and Sam Jackson.
Tears of the Sun got of the gate poorly over its opening weekend on March 7, 2003.
The action film had consecutive follow-up weekend drops of 49%, only to be followed by deadly drops of 55%, 65% and 70%.

 Tyler: Children of Dune
The hard-as-nails The Hunted and thrilling Darkness Falls seem to offer far more promise.
Of the three scores, Children of Dune seems to be by far the most popular in the film music world of fandom, I guess as a consequence of its easy-listening style, but I must say I think it makes for a slightly weaker album than the other two.
Brian Tyler's star is clearly on the rise, and Children of Dune, the third of the Tyler Triumvirate released by Varèse Sarabande in March 2003, shows why: epic melodies, exciting action, pleasant listening.
