  Darkthrone - Unholy Black Metal
Review: From the age of classic Darkthrone a snapshot of the seminal band in several stages of evolution reveals promising degrees of separation between original song and live version, preserving the essential while varying the contextual in a delicious layering of perspective for any die-hard fan of modern fl metal.
Through the ultramodernist "Transilvanian Hunger" or the dark and intemperate sparse and doomy material of the Goatlord era, Darkthrone emerge as personality and as a consistent hand of logic in sculpting expressive and yet belligerent sons.
Darkthrone have lost their passion and gone to a formula using the mid-paced material influenced by first-generation fl metal (Celtic Frost, Bathory) in an almost rocklike style with simple mood shifts and Disneyesque symbolism in tone.

Ink 19 :: Darkthrone   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Darkthrone have as much, if not more, disciplined attack than the Ramones in their early prime and all the unhinged “fuck it!” desperation of the metal pioneers that they pay tribute to (Bathory, Hellhammer) in every insectoid riff.
What they do, which really sets Darkthrone apart from their peers (besides the almost instrumental telepathy and absolute commitment to their outsider, “regressive” aesthetic, that is) is that they’ve become adept at interrupting Tasmanian Devil-esque speedfreakouts with catchy thrash sections or, most crucially, fabulous, meaty doomy passages that go off with buzzbomb brutality.
Every Darkthrone album is an extension of the last, another piece in a puzzle that will eventually form a huge fucking middle finger to the world.

Darkthrone - Satan Stole My Teddybear
What Darkthrone did was take a very nearly punk approach to technical death metal (which was all the rage at the time) by simply going all out in aggression and letting the music flow from that.
Darkthrone had the ability to whip together a fluid, vaguely melodic platoon of songs that offered more than a few memorable tunes.
In their earlier years, Darkthrone seemed to thrive on creating a larger-than-life monster with each release, but nowadays there seems to be no ulterior motives beyond making an ugly, thrashy record in the vein of mid-80s underground metal.

 DarkThrone: True Norwegian Black Metal
Unintentional yet interesting in the resulting sequence of events DarkThrone’s debut effort begins the burning down of death metal’s establishments and the rising from the ashes of a new generation of fl metal in the anti-formulations, despite clear parallels of definition.
In this, DarkThrone have constructed the ultimate satanic rejection of life in the world of the living, and now find themselves standing at the threshold of the fl forest of isolation, torch in hand with a glance towards a holy establishment.
As much as this is DarkThrone's clearest emphasis on a regressionist agenda, this is music that is central to the core of DarkThrone’s realm and that of the identity of their region.

Compare Prices and Read Reviews on Transylvanian Hunger [ECD] [Digipak] [Remaster] - Darkthrone at Epinions.com
Darkthrone began their career playing a simplistic style of old-school-ish death metal, which is quite evident on their first release, "Soulside Journey".
Quickly jumping bandwagons, Darkthrone (and others as well as Immortal) adopted the ideologies and minimalist music stylings of fl metal...a hateful style of extreme metal created by the norwegians to combat "trendy" metal, religious ideologies and establishments, amongst other things...but that's a huge subject that I won't get into.
Darkthrone are famous for their outlandish statements and viewpoints in interviews which should be sought purely for the entertainment value...I guarantee a good laugh!

Since then, the members of Darkthrone have been going through a second childhood which led to the release of colossal Black Metal albums such as "Ravishing Grimness", "Plaguewielder" and their latest effort "Hate Them".
Darkthrone chose to be less fast this time, but the rhythmical riffs that are on display here are more than rewarding.
The last two songs of the album, the classic Darkthrone composition "Striving for a piece of Lucifer" and the Black Metal anthem "In Honour of thy Name" will be the epilogue of another classic Black Metal release that will influence hundreds of young musicians throughout the world.

The band changed their name to Darkthrone in 1987 and continued playing Death Metal for another four demos and their first full-length album, Soulside Journey.

It is interesting to note that Darkthrone somehow managed not to get caught up in the church-burning that occured during this period, and consistently stood by their prison-bound friend.

Darkthrone are not only one of the founding fathers of the infamous Norwegian fl metal scene but they are also one of the few bands who have achieved as much in their career with such simple means.
But since Darkthrone hasn´t made a videoclip in their career, and concerts simply don´t exist, that urge is close to utopia, unless you release some footage of you in the making of an album, recording in the studio.

 Darkthrone biography @ Tartareandesire.com
DARKTHRONE was formed in 1986 under the moniker BLACK DEATH, by Gylve Nagell (drummer/lyricist), Ted Skjellum (guitars/vocals), Ivar Enger (guitars) and Dag Nilsen (bass).
After releasing the "Land Of Frost", "Thulcandra" and "Cromlech" demos, and the "A New Dimension" promo tape, Darkthrone were signed to British death pioneers Peaceville, and released their debut CD "Soulside Journey", a brooding, doom ridden album of scandinavian (ala Entombed) death metal.
It was at this stage, Darkthrone began writing most of their lyrics/songtitles in their native tongue, and decided that they "only wanted to work with Norwegians".

Members Fenriz and Nocturno Culto of Darkthrone not only qualify as veterans and highly influential in the increasingly bloated fl metal scene, but have remained consistently vital to extreme music throughout their careers.
Darkthrone’s sound has more in common with old-school bands like Bathory, Venom, Possessed, and, most noticeably, Celtic Frost, then it does with anything popular right now.
Darkthrone was never a band of complete originality; they’ve always made up for this through the sheer intensity and anger of the music.
