Hood was a guest on such TV shows of the early 1960s as Tell It to Groucho starring Groucho Marx and The Jack Benny Show, where she appeared as "Darla" in a spoof of the old Our Gang shows with Jack Benny.
At forty-seven, Hood died in North Hollywood, California, of acute hepatitis contracted while in the hospital for a minor surgery.
Darla Hood is interred at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Hollywood.

Born in Oklahoma in 1931, her father was a banker and her mother prodded Darla's innate musical talents with singing and dancing lessons.
With her first husband, she formed the vocal group "Darla Hood and the Enchanters" which provided incidental background music for such classic films as A Letter to Three Wives (1949), among others.
Hood made her last public appearance at "The First Bi-Annual Sons Of The Desert" convention at The O'Hare Airport Hotel (outside Chicago) from August l8-20, l978 and she did the voice of "Spanky's" mother on "The Little Rascals TV Cartoon Special" in l983.

Darla's acting was fine as a kid, but her singing was even better.
When Our Gang started making mini-musicals in the middle 1930s, I sincerely believe she was the kid who sang the best out of them all, unless you counted some of the non-regulars such as the Cabin Kids (the African-American singing group) and the Bryan Sisters (the bespectacled little farm girls).
I watched Our Gang shows when I was a child but all I remember about Darla was that she was a cute little girl who sounded as though she was reading her lines from cue cards.
