  DARLING - DVD
The film is stultifying in its old-bourgeois disapproval of what used to be condescendingly referred to as "the younger generation," and as it ticks off the sins of its titular protagonist, Darling only makes you hate the filmmakers for being so high and mighty.
The film is so self-consciously "serious" that it counts out any and all pleasure as shallow and destructive, leaving a grimy austerity that is as taken with surfaces as the woman it's supposed to be indicting.
With no pleasurable alternative to Diana's reign of error, the film draws a line in the sand and tallies things up: the sober high culture represented by Robert (and a great but out-of-print author he interviews) is pitted against the transient culture of youth, good times, and, presumably, moral corruption.

 David Darling
David Darling is a classically trained, eclectically inclined musician with an infectious energy, a sumptuous sound, and a maverick spirit.
Among the notables with whom Darling has performed and collaborated are Bobby McFerrin; Peter, Paul, and Mary; the members of Oregon; Paul Winter, Spyro Gyra; Terje Rypdal; Jan Garbarek; the innovative dance ensemble Pilobolus; Ketil Bjornstad and Joseph Campbell.
Darling has developed his particular style by incorporating a solid bodied eight-string electric cello and introducing electronic effects into his playing, using digital delay and other processing devices.

DVDBeaver.com - "My Darling Clementine" Review
The film's screenplay was penned by Samuel G. Engel and Winston Miller and was taken partly from "Wyatt Earp, Frontier Marshal", a novel written in 1931 by Stuart N. Lake.
He shot this genre of film on location in the desert and prairie, his cast and crew living as if they were on a lengthy cattle drive, eating beans out of the chuckwagon and roughing it in tents at night.
Virtually every scene in this film is crafted with precise detail, from the darkness of the saloon interiors, the foreshadowing night rain and the magnificent vistas of the Arizona mountains and desert with the monument-like El Capitan positioned expertly in the last scenes.

 My Darling Clementine (1946)
The film's title was not chosen in honor of any of the central characters or the shoot-out, but after the name of Earp's civilizing, female acquaintance in the town of Tombstone.
The film's screenplay, by Samuel G. Engel, Sam Hellman and Winston Miller, was taken in part from the 1931 novel Wyatt Earp, Frontier Marshal by Stuart N. Lake.
Ford's film similarly retells the violent episode of the gunfight-shootout at the O.K. Corral (an actual historical event that occurred on the afternoon of October 26, 1881), the story of the duel between two families - the good one represented by the Earps and the notorious one represented by the Clanton family.

The bulk of the film is presented as an extended flashback, as Diana Scott describes her life and how she came to be the wife of an Italian Prince.
Darling, falling on the cusp, might be described as kitchen sink meets swinging sixties, but it's not a successful amalgam.

Darling has produced and directed a lifetime's worth of documentaries, including Below the Wind, a film on the Aboriginal people of Arnhem Land, recounting a visit from old friends -- the Sama Bajo of Indonesia -- who came south to look for trepang, or sea cucumber.
A month after the bombings, Darling and his family went to Bali in November 2002, attending the Pamarisudha Karipubhaya mass purification ceremony to ward off evil spirits and to purify the island.
The film focuses mostly on Indonesian and Balinese victims and a few Australian survivors, families and doctors.

Trade analysts say that notwithstanding his constant "brushes with the law", one quality that sets Salman apart from his other contemporaries is that he is one actor who does films out of his sense of loyalty towards filmmaker friends, rather than merely due to their box office potential.
Trade sources say Salman agreed to play the lead role in a film by old friend Revathy in 'Phir Milenge', a film about an AIDS patient at a time when no star of his stature, or even below that, had consented to work in a film which they feared was a women-oriented one.

CLERKS is the debut film of Kevin Smith, a director whose films are either loved or hated, but rarely boring.
Smith admits that his films aren't much to look at – which is especially true with CLERKS – but you won't really care because you'll be laughing too hard.
The film follows a day in the life of two clerks – Dante (O'Halloran), who works at the local convenience store and Randal (Anderson), a slacker who mans the counter at the video store next door.

But although Jenson's film is of that peculiarly insular, homespun variety, it nevertheless manages to fend off the blight of boredom with its sheer exuberance and authentic appreciation of its subject.
Perhaps the reason for its relatively overwhelming success lies in its exploration of the traditions and customs of a particular society, and how these traditions, and the societies themselves, are coping in a world of increasing globalisation.

 DVD Savant Review: Darling Lili
Darling Lili also became a big topic among leading film critics in a debate about the future of the movies -- it came up frequently in the big Easy Rider paradox, as an example of fossilized, hopelessly clueless Hollywood filmmaking.
Film critics made matters worse, as 1970 was in the middle of the great auteurist debate (Well, "great" only if one followed film critic chat).
Darling Lili really can't support any of these arguments, as it is what it is, a rather flat film that cost altogether too much money.

A welcome new DVD life might be in store for Darling Lili, an underrated film whose reputation is mostly locked as one of the big, expensive flops that helped reshape Hollywood at the turn of the seventies.
Darling Lili is not a great movie by any means, but it's quite enjoyable with pretty music, nice cinematography, costumes, and set design.
DARLING LILI is a positive delight, though sadly the film was a huge box-office flop and virtually sunk Andrews' film career until "10", S.O.B. and VICTOR/VICTORIA came along a decade later.
