 Darling Scarp
The Darling Scarp or Darling Range is a low escarpment running North-South to the East of Perth, Western Australia.
As time moved on, the seas covered the plains of Perth, which is why Perth is such a sandy city, having spent many years on the bottom of a sea-shelf.
These days, the Darling escarpment is well-known for it's high quantity of bauxite (or Aluminium ore), which is generally mined by the company Alcoa[?] and shipped to the bauxite refineries to the south of Perth.

It lies to the west of the current scarp, and a good reference point of its location would be the point that the Great Eastern Highway passes over the current Eastern Railway line in Bellevue.
The Eastern Railway first traversed the Darling Scarp in the 1880's along its first route through Greenmount (where three of the above quarries later were able to utilise the railway).

In England escarpments are found in a diagonal line across the country from the Yorkshire coast on the North Sea to the Hampshire coast on the English Channel.
There the features of an escarpment include the scarp slope (the leading edge); the dip slope, dry valleys, coombes (both found in chalk downland), and clay vales occur on the side away from the scarp.
