DARLINGTON - The Darlington County Council with a 5-3 vote passed a $23.5 million general fund budget for fiscal year 2005-06 Monday that won’t raise taxes above the Consumer Price Index of 1.53 mills.
The council got the budget it passed Monday after Darlington County Administrator Phyllis Griffits was instructed on May 18 to make cuts to county departments that amounted to 2 percent of the general fund budget.
In addition to passing the general fund budget, the council passed ordinances to fund the county’s environmental services for the fiscal year and the county’s fire district fund.
