  Automobiles and aeroplanes: Darracq | Features | 4car | channel4.com
The best known Darracq is undoubtedly Genevieve, the 1904 10/12hp veteran car which starred in the film of the same name.
Yet besides his speed record-setting sports cars, businessman and bicycle-maker Alexandre Darracq (who, incidentally, never learned to drive, let alone fly) was also involved in the early days of aviation.
Darracq was a leading supplier of horizontally opposed piston engines; by 1909, it was making two- and four-cylinder units which were supplied to pioneers such as Edouard de Nie Port (Nieuport), whose Nieuport I plane was capable of 45mph.

When I was originally asked whether I could convert the magneto fitted to this car to dual ignition I said that depending on exactly what model mag was fitted it may be possible and a Bosch High Tension switch Coil would be needed as well..
Of course the mag was not suitable and it was agreed that the best way forward was to find a more suitable donor magneto for adaption.
The Bosch DU4 Magneto you see here may look as though it has always been for dual ignition operation but I can assure you that it never left Bosch in that form and uses numerous specially made components to make it suitable for the Darracq.
