During the reign of the Ahom king Gaurinath Singha (1780-1794), the authority of the Darrang Raja was further reduced and he was placed at the disposal of the Borphukan at Guwahati.
It is a metrical chronicle of Darrang Rajas composed at the initiative of its tenth ruler Samudranarayana.
The Northern part of Darrang district which touches the fringe of Bhutan Hills is mostly populated by the tribes viz; the Bodo-Kacharis, the Rabhas, the Madahis the Saranias, the Mahalias, the Koches and a small number of Garos.

DARRANG, a district of British India, in the province of Eastern Bengal and Assam.
Darrang originally formed, according to tradition, part of the dominions of Bana Raja, who was defeated by Krishna in a battle near Tezpur ("the town of blood").
In the 16th century Darrang was subject to the Koch king of Kamarupa, Nar Narayan, and on the division of his dominions among his heirs passed to an independent line of rajas.
