TOPSPURS - Jim Duggan's Tottenham Hotspur Site
Anderton having played in Spurs first ever Premiership match back in 1992 will be entering his 12th season with the club, although the 309 starts he has made in that time reveal much about how injury has affected his Spurs career.
Anderton does look good at some stage in all his matches and as one of my former favourite Spurs players I would dearly love to say he was the man for the job - but as much as it pains me to say it we need to replace him and soon.
Based upon his appearances under the Goonersaurus, Anderton has had at least one injury too many and has not developed mentally as a player to compensate for the physical cost of all of his injuries, which had left him some way short of the international form on which his salary expectation is based upon.

Darren Robert Anderton (born March 3, 1972 in Southampton) is an English football player currently playing on a pay-as-you-play basis for Bournemouth.
Anderton soon became a regular in the national side and turned down a move to Manchester United in the summer of 1995 following an exciting season spent playing with the likes of Jurgen Klinsmann at Tottenham.
Anderton's form during the early part of the 2001/02 season earned his first call-up to Sven-Göran Eriksson's England squad for a friendly against Sweden in November.

 TOPSPURS - Tribute to Anderton
And so the Tottenham Hotspur career of Darren Anderton came to a silent end as the club decided to release the midfielder in May. It was hard to argue with the reasons behind his departure, he simply did not fit the bill as a modern Premiership midfielder.
However, it is rather sad that Anderton was allowed to slip away quietly clutching his box of possessions and a carriage clock whilst Gus and co enjoyed a farewell party at Rudolfs.
To compare Anderton to Le Tissier, Darren’s contribution during the 1993/94 season was critical to keeping Spurs in the Premier League.
