 What Critics are saying!
Funnier than creator Darren Star's inadvertently funny new Wall Street drama ''The Street,'' ''Pointe'' takes the air out of the gassy nighttime youth soap opera by way of dexterous acting -- the way the performers execute both their characters and the characters they play on the show within the show is remarkably adroit.
Star has already taken heat from Spelling's famous pop, producer Aaron Spelling, a mentor and producing colleague on "90210" and "Melrose Place." Spelling complained to WB executives about the character's similarities to his daughter, who originally got her job on "90210" through Daddykins.
Darren Star, the creator of HBO's very mature comedy Sex and the City, is still best known as the man behind Beverly Hills, 90210, the teen drama that made stars of Shannen Doherty, Luke Perry, Jason Priestley and, to a lesser degree, Tori Spelling, daughter of megaproducer Aaron Spelling.

Star also pokes fun of himself in "Grosse Pointe," not only in the form of the show's young executive producer, but also in the dialogue for the characters on the teen drama.

 Darren Star at Hollywood.com
Credited by some with energizing the Fox Network and with reviving the Spelling TV empire, Darren Star was a driven 28-year old from Potomac, MD, when the series he created, "Beverly Hills 90210" premiered on Fox in 1990 and launched his career.
Star was enticed by CBS to leave the Spelling empire in 1995 to create, write and executive produce "Central Park West", another ongoing primetime sudser, based and shot in New York amidst the backdrop of a publishing empire.
Rather than use this freedom simply to titillate, Star drew characters who were refreshingly more realistic than his previous creations, and audiences responded well despite the fact that these affluent, sexually adventurous socialites live a life quite foreign to the average viewer.
