Toronto’s Bedouin Soundclash will be returning to the studio to record their follow up to “Sounding a Mosaic” (Stomp Records) and have invited Darryl Jenifer of Bad Brains back to produce.
On Sounding a Mosaic Darryl brought a whole different element to the studio, and his past experiences with Bad Brains and the New York hardcore scene influenced us all as musicians.
Darryl is one of those few people who has affected so many people in music today, from Pharell Williams, the Beastie Boys, Mos Def, and The Roots, to bands like Asian Dub Foundation, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and No Doubt.

Earl Hudson's drums lead the attack, directing Darryl Jenifer's bass and Dr. Know's guitar like a drill sergeant preparing troops for war.
Much is made of frontman H.R.'s pioneering performance on this album; while his incredible range does sound remarkable on this album (particularly within the context of what was coming out of the D.C. punk scene at the time), the cheap effects somewhat undermine its impact.
HR is a vocal god and you'd be hard-pressed to understand what he's saying without the aid of the liner notes; of course that just makes this lightning fast music all the more enjoyable.

Richman has never matched that masterpiece of self-deprecating humor and innocent strife, but that's not to say he hasn't tried: I'm So Confused is his 17th record, and if this isn't the one that finally puts him over, it's still pretty nice.
Backed by a spare rhythm section of former Bad Brains bassist Darryl Jenifer (!) and longtime drummer Tommy Larkins, the 47-year-old Richman proves he's just as comfortable with adolescent yearnings now as he was back in the day.
If that means "Nineteen In Naples" sounds like it was pulled from the first Violent Femmes album, then so be it: The man deserves a slice of the pie he baked.

That adrenalized style kicks off "God of Love," with "Cool Mountaineers" and "Justice Keepers"; Know's skittering guitar solo on the latter successfully recaptures the headlong rush of the band's early days.
