Dartmeet is approximately 200 miles (320 km) south-west of London.
We can put you in touch with a local firm who may be able to arrange to meet you and give a better price than the cabs at the station.
There is a bus service from Newton Abbot to Princetown, stopping at Dartmeet, but it does not operate all year.

I discovered the route north of Dartmeet entirely by accident, whilst walking with a group of friends in the summer of '92.
Dartmeet is a little bit of heaven on Earth.
There's some 2 km of path rising up to high moorland alongside the dwindling stream that is the upper East Dart, before the river curves round to the left and heads off into the wilds between Black Hill and Hangingstone Hill, on the fringes of the army artillery range.

During their rest on Dartmeet Hill, the mason would inscribe the initials of the deceased on the Coffin Stone, together with a small cross.

 River Dart above Newbridge and Tors
There appears to have once been a small footbridge upstream of the road bridge but there is little of the former left.
There is a large car park, toilets, a hotel and an in season tea shop and not a lot else at Dartmeet, but very popular in the summer nevertheless.
We continued along the river bank, avoiding the small bogs, well most of us did, others were testing the inside of their boots for damp proofing.

The majority of the Dartmoor National Park lies over a granite plateau - 600m above sea level, rising to a height of 621m, the park also includes the rich fertile lands to the north and south of the moor, known as the 'Hams'.

 Dartmeet and a loop around Corndon Down
This walk is the only one Dartmoor walk out of the getting on for 100 on the site which starts from the very popular Dartmeet CP, adjacent to the equally popular Brimpt's Tea rooms.
Fran Allen led this circular 8.5 mile walk on Sunday 29th June and 27 ramblers made it to the start point with the sun shining but with a forecast of rain later.
All roads lead to Rome or in this case Dartmeet and we were soon down to a recognisable track, through a gate and down to this popular tourist area.

This trip ends at Dartmeet (GR 672732), where the river joins the West Dart to become the main River Dart, just downstream of the get-in for the Dartmeet section.
Although this can undoubtedly be paddled lower, it should be saved for high water conditions; partly to bring the rapids in condition, partly because paddling at low levels might affect spawning beds.
In December 2002 a single tree had fallen across the river a hundred metres upstream of Dartmeet.

On the gravestone of Edward Collins, once landlord of the Church House Inn, is the curious inscription (almost indecipherable)-
By the side of the road to Hexworthy and Two Bridges a gate gives access to a private road leading to a path beside the river to Dartmeet.
This is open to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during the summer months.

Went missing on Oct 26 with another dog(found at Dartmeet) near Venford reservoir, Dartmoor.Possible sighting Dart Country Park, Ashburton.
Then onto the moor and over the reservoir, through Hexworthy and over the bridge as far as the Dartmeet B road, when it got dark.
Tomorrow I plan to poster the Dartmeet to Ashburton route the other side of the river but, given that we should probably be postering everywhere within a 3 or 4 mile radius of where Bertie went missing.
