		Touted as the new Strokes, Interpol or what-have-you, Glasgow's Franz Ferdinand is riding enough hype about their recently released EP, entitled Darts of Pleasure, to become the next big thing in independent rock.
		Darts of Pleasure clearly demonstrates that, though the EP on the whole is noteworthy but not extraordinary, Franz Ferdinand has some serious potential -- and perhaps this is the source of the mammoth hype for these Scots.
		With the understanding that Darts of Pleasure is the band's first proper EP, though, that same fact also leads me to believe that the band is still in search of its groove.

		Darts of Pleasure itself is, of course, pure class: heart-renderingly romantic, arch, and an unmistakable call to the dancefloor.
		'darts of pleasure' makes you want to jump and hit your head on the lightbulb(which i did), a new wave song sang by a dashing fop, and then some super fantastisch German banter at the end!!!
		'Darts of pleasure' is a catchy pop nugget made all the more enjoyable for the german sing-a-long at the end, 'van tango' bounces along with the wit and cheek of early blur while 'shopping for blood' sounds like ian curtis stomping his way through a new goldfrapp tune...

		Darts Of Pleasure (Home Demo) - Again, it's pretty much the same deal with this version of "Darts Of Pleasure." It doesn't sound as well made because it just isn't as well made.

		Although Franz Ferdinand has been hailed as "Scotland's answer to Interpol," their debut EP, Darts of Pleasure, reveals the band as much weirder and wider-ranging than their impeccably dressed American counterparts.
		Admittedly, the chunky, angular guitars that propel the EP's opening track, "Darts of Pleasure," do sound akin to those on Interpol's "PDA," and Franz Ferdinand's singer, Alex Kapranos, has an insistent baritone voice that recalls both Paul Banks and Ian Curtis.
		Darts of Pleasure is a fine opening salvo from a very promising group.

		Franz Ferdinand, bless them, arrived in 2003 with not only an EP full of stonking tuneage (Darts of Pleasure), but a great backstory, a willingness to wear ridiculous clothes and a literate sense of pop ambition not seen in Britain since the retreat of Blur after the Britpop wars.
		Their lineage really extends well beyond post-punk, and as early as last year's Darts of Pleasure EP they were showcasing the kind of stomping rhythms, sticky choruses and predilection for looking daft and talking bollocks that have been the hallmark of great British artrockers from The Kinks to Blur via The Smiths.
		Franz Ferdinand is a very confident debut, not least because it shuns two of the stellar b-sides from Darts of Pleasure.

		"Darts of Pleasure" (5 tracks, 16 min.) starts off with the title track, an immediate burst of energy, with a high pulse of guitars and bass.
		The two demos are very interesting: "Tell Her Tonight" is haunting (and appears in full band mode on the debut album), and there is also a demo of "Darts".
		The band would go on to release their debut album in March 2004, and the album only confirms the promise of the excellent "Darts" EP.
