Patton endured a frustrating 2005 season, which saw him hampered throughout the campaign with injuries to his groin and hip.
Patton closed out his 2003 campaign with a U.S. Outdoor title and a gold (4x100m) and silver (200m) medal at World Outdoors, firmly establishing himself as one of the worlds top sprinters.
Patton was a late-bloomer coming out of Dallas Lake Highlands High School, where he did not make the schools relay team.

Darvis Patton could be nominated for breakthrough athlete of the year as the American champion showed consistency throughout the season running under 20.40 in each of his outdoor 200m races except for the heats at the national championships where the wind-gauge showed —3.7m/s.
Patton kept up his good form towards the end of the summer and first set a new personal best of 20.03 (1330 points Performance Score) in the semi-final in Paris, then went on to win the silver medal behind compatriot and friend John Capel in 20.31 (1441 points Performance Score).
Patton’s reward for a week of hard competition was a jump over last week’s leader Frank Fredericks (NAM) into first place in the Event Ranking.

A ten-time All-American at Texas Christian University, Patton emerged from the collegiate scene in 2001 with respectable 10.14 and 20.29 PBs, along with an 8.12 best in the Long Jump, the event that brought him to the sport as a bright-eyed fan of Carl Lewis as a junior in high school.
Patton still trains in Fort Worth under Texas Christian head coach Monte Stratton, along with world 100 metres champion Kim Collins and Ricardo Williams, a Paris semi-finalist in the 200.

Patton, who completed his collegiate eligibility at TCU in 2001, ran the second leg on the U.S. sprint relay team in the semifinal round, helping the quartet of Shawn Crawford, Patton, Coby Miller, and Maurice Greene to a winning time of 38.02 seconds.
Justin Gatlin took Patton's spot in the finals as the Americans took home a silver medal with a time of 38.08, falling just short of the gold medal behind Great Britain (38.07).

In Paris the mens 4x100 team was (Capel John, Williams Bernard, Patton Darvis, Johnson Joshua J.) and they ran 38.06.
Wayne, I think if you put Justin Gatlin in for Darvis Patton they might have gone a little faster.
I beg to differ, there was a bad stick between Williams and Patton which allowed Devonish to get away Patton closed on him.
