Darwin is a settlement on East Falkland, lying on Choisel Sound, on the east side of the island's central isthmus.
Darwin was founded in 1859 as the centre for sheep farming in Lafonia, which it remained until 1922.
Attractions in Darwin include a corral, the Galpon building which was home to nineteenth century gauchos, the Argentine Military Cemetery, and birdlife both in the Sound and the pond.

Darwin is a small community of maybe half a dozen houses, and Darwin Lodge is a small guesthouse run by Ken and Bonnie Greenland (00 500 32255) where for £1.50 you can have a cup of tea or coffee and a plate full of cakes and biscuits (this is called "smoko" out here).
From Darwin we drove on to Goose Green, it's a sad looking place, it is or was the second largest settlement in the Falklands behind Stanley.
I joked that it was "the Birmingham of the Falkland Islands" it has none of the charm of Stanley, instead what it has is a sort of windlashed, grey, end of the world sort of feeling about it.
