Dassault Étendard IV   (Site not responding. Last check: )
The Dassault Étendard IV was a French carrier-borne "strike" fighter in service with the French Navy.
Dassault used variations of the same basic design to produce prototypes for both these specifications, designated the Étendard II and Étendard VI respectively, neither of which led to any orders.
Able to generate interest from the Navy, Dassault built a prototype navalised version, first demonstrated to the service in 1958 and which resulted in an order for 69 fighter aircraft, designated Étendard IVM and 21 reconnaissance versions designated Étendard IVP.

It is a development of the earlier Etendard IVM that was originally to have been replaced by a navalised version of the SEPECAT Jaguar, the Jaguar M, until this plan was stalled by political problems.
The Super Etendard had been developed in parallel with a new air-launched version of Aérospatiale's anti-shipping missile, the AM 39 Exocet, and these were supplied to Argentina as well.
All Super Etendards are expected to be retired from French service by 2010, to be replaced from 2006 onwards with a navalised version of the Dassault Rafale.

 CAEA : Etendard IV M
The Etendard, result of a series of prototypes initially named Mystère, was designed in order to take part in the competition organized in 1955 by NATO, relating to a strike fighter able to operate take-off from summarily arranged runways.
The development of this new carrierborne fighter is the subject of modifications relating in particular to the installation of an Atar 8 turbojet (alternative Atar 9 without afterburning), a fuselage redrawn according to the law of the surfaces and an increase in the surface of the wing to compensate the weight increase.
Etendard IV M will be gradually withdrawn from the service progressively with the arrival of the Super-Etendard as from 1978.
