The Dassault Mirage III is a supersonic fighter aircraft designed in France during the 1950s, and manufactured both in France and a number of other countries.
Dassault's response to the specification was the "Mystere-Delta 550", a sporty-looking little jet that was to be powered by twin Armstrong Siddeley MD30R Viper afterburning turbojets, each with 9.61 kN (980 kg / 2,160 lb) thrust.
Dassault then considered a somewhat bigger version, the "Mirage II", with a pair of Turbomeca Gabizo turbojets, but no aircraft of this configuration was ever built.

 The Dassault Mirage F1
Dassault was hedging bets of their own as well, designing a somewhat scaled down interceptor version of the F2, the "Mirage F3", and a lightweight multirole version, the "Mirage F1".
The Mirage F1 was a good aircraft at an attractive price, but it was followed a bit too quickly by the Dassault Mirage 2000, which was clearly superior in most respects and so became preferred by customers.
All Iraqi Mirage F1s, including the two-seaters, had the tailfin fillet for an HF antenna, and were generally painted in sand-chocolate disruptive camouflage on top, with light gray on the bottom.

Primary armaments of the Mirage 2000C in the interceptor role were the Matra "Super 530" medium-range semi-active radar-guided air to air missile (AAM) on the inboard wing pylons and the Matra "Magic" short-range infrared-seeking AAM on the outboard wing pylons.
Dassault needed an order from the ADA to help promote foreign sales, and after some lobbying, in 1993 the ADA decided to upgrade 37 of their existing Mirage 2000s to 2000-5 specification as a stopgap before the arrival of the Rafale in ADA service.
Dassault had no buyers for the big Mirage 4000 and it was mothballed for a few years, but pulled out of retirement in 1986 with a spiffy new desert camouflage scheme to be used as a test platform for the Rafale fighter.
