Dassault had developed the Mirage 5 at the request of the Israelis.
Marcel Dassault, before the war, was Marcel Bloch, producer of the Bloch series of fighters before the German occupation.
Nesher production was terminated to make way for an improved Mirage derivative that had been in planning in parallel, in which the Atar engine was to be replaced with an Israeli-built General Electric J79 engine, the same engine used on the American F-104 Starfighter and F-4 Phantom II fighters.

Dassault Mirage IIIV - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Dassault Mirage IIIV (three vee) was one of the most interesting offshoots of the Dassault Mirage III family tree.
As the machine was the first Mirage III, it was serial-numbered "001", and at the time there was a French movie advertising agency (Publicité Jean Mineur) that widely publicised its phone number, "BALZAC 0-0-1".
Four designs were submitted, the Mirage IIIV design, the Fokker US-Republic D.24 Alliance, the BAC 584 and the Hawker P.1154, to NATO in January 1962 in competition for the AC/169 specification for a supersonic V/STOL strike fighter to meet NATO Basic Military Requirement 3.

On some Mirages, the leading edge of the tailfin was a straight line, while on those with the HF antenna the leading edge had a sloping extension forward.

The Mirage IIIC was armed with twin 30 millimeter DEFA revolver-type cannon, fitted in the belly with the gun ports under the air intakes.
A similar inconsistent variation in Mirage fighter versions was the presence or absence of an HF antenna that was fitted as a forward extension to the tailfin.
The Mirage IIIC was intended primarily as an interceptor, and so its initial external armament were early Sidewinder missiles and the Matra R-530 missile, with interchangeable infrared (IR) or radar-homing seeker.
