		The Dasyproctidae are a family of South American rodents, comprising three genera.
		The Pacas (Agouti genus) are sometimes placed in a separate family Agoutidae or as the subfamily Agoutinae.
		Adding to the confusion, the name Agoutis is sometimes used to refer to the whole family Dasyproctidae, including or excluding the Agouti genus.

		Sometimes the word agouti is also usedfor the whole family Dasyproctidae, which, besides the Paca and commonagoutis, includes also the acouchis (Myoprocta).
		To avoid misunderstandings,some authors prefer to use Cuniculus instead of Agouti as the Paca's genus.
