Phan was born in Vietnam in 1975, several months before his family escaped from Saigon as the city fell to the Communists.
Phan auditioned for "Last Comic Standing" and made it to the final 10, living in a house with his fellow comics while both the comics and the TV audience voted on which contestant would challenge who and who would be voted off.
Dat Phan: I live in the same building as when I was living in a studio, but we moved to a one bedroom.

Critics of Dat Phan often say that he includes his mother too much in his act and relies heavily on his gimmick of talking in a stereotypical Vietnamese accent, but he still retains a large fan base.
Dat Phan was voted most successful of his class at his West Hills High School ten year reunion as well as being voted into Grossmont Community College Walk of Fame.

 Cringe Humor - Comedy That Questions Your Morality
Phan once again was voted a winner, but this time it was to honor how truly terrible a comedian he is. Dat won Hack Of The Year by a landslide, and also won Worst Moment for when he was voted the winner of LCS.
Dat was talking with the hunky Jason Steinberg, and once that conversation ended, he turned around and greeted us with a big "hello!." Kristen like the trooper that she is, enthusiastically asked Dat for a picture.
Dat then gives me this "you're a fucking asshole" look and sarcastically thanks me. He realizes he's been had, and there I am with a big dopey smile on my face while my partners in crime giggle in the background.

Dat will be rich and he should do a sitcom--he is the only one of that group that has the discpline and work attitude to pull it off--the others would oversleep and not know their lines or some such BS, get the show cancelled and cost a lot of peeps their jobs.
Dat Phan has had 15 minutes of fame and already you're jumping down his throat because you expect him to be the "Asian Malcolm X" Let him live his life and become successful and maybe sometime down the line he'll open some eyes.

You could almost feel that Dat was set up for the win just because he got soooo much face time on the opening episode and they milked the hell out of the poor kid schtick.
when he was eliminated by dat, i was shocked that the people in the audience would chose to vote for someone that did the same joke for 10 minutes as opposed to someone who was original and funny.
His humor was full of intelligent and ironic punch lines; Dat Phan stuck with "pee" jokes and imitations on his ethnic family, which never really made sense.

The fact the words "Comedy" and "Dat Phan" are being used as if they somehow fit together perfectly (thus implying Dat Phan is funny) is saddening.
He's a hack with one of the most one dimensional acts in the history of stand-up comedy (and may in fact actually be Margaret Cho) and the total antithesis of the words "funny" and "comedy".
I have to agree with Pretentious on Dat Phan's act, there's not alot of variety to it and it doesn't really cover alot, the fact that he does centre his entire act on him being asian gets old really quick.

Dat didn't even think he could win but...
The final vote count is as follows: Dat Phan 35%, Ralphie May 28%, Rich Vos 18%, Cory Kahaney 12% and Tess Drake 7%.
Mordal was awesome and I would love to hear more of his material but if Dat Phan makes it to the finals it will be a travesty.
