	USGCRP Carbon Cycle Science Program
		Atmospheric CO2 and isotopic data, including the high CO2 growth rate measured during 1998, are interpreted in terms of varying terrestrial and oceanic sources and sinks of CO2 in broad latitudinal zones.
		First, we are able now, with some confidence, to compute the air-sea flux of CO2 across the air-sea interface directly on a global basis thanks to the compilation of a large data base of observations of the air-sea difference in the partial pressure of CO2 [Takahashi et al., 1999].
		Sources and sinks of atmospheric carbon dioxide are mediated by processes at diverse spatial and temporal scales, involving interactions between soils, the atmosphere, surface oceans, deep oceans, terrestrial biota, and marine biota.
