I would not agree with that, as Bancroft played in a mega-hitters era, so his.279 BA is not as impressive as it appears, and, IMO, there are a significant # of shortstops better than Bancroft who are not, and never will be, in the HOF.
Actually, Bancroft's career was split between deadball and lively ball, and in the lively ball era, he played for four years in Braves Field, one of the worst HR parks ever.
Bancroft was pretty much the standard of excellence with the glove, the way Ozzie was, I think.

Bancroft started later and ended later, so the comparison by age isn't quite so neat, but with three years added to his prime, Reese overgoes Bancroft by a considerable margin also.
Reese IS well behind Bancroft and Sewell by many measures; IF you refuse to adjust for league strength at all.

After Hornsby, the best infielder was either Charlie Hollocher, Dave Bancroft, or Frankie Frisch.
Hollocher had slightly better numbers (and struck out only 5 times!), but Frisch and Bancroft both played for the pennant-winning Giants, and Bancroft was a superior defensive player.
