Dave has spent the last seven years in Asia in the business investigations and risk mitigation industry, during which time he has led numerous multi-jurisdictional fraud investigations and other investigative assignments on behalf of multinationals.
In this position Dave had responsibility for the investigation and prosecution of a wide range of financial crimes including forgery, credit card fraud, false pretences, issuing of false prospectuses together with the prosecution of lawyers and accountants for misappropriation or false accounting within their respective Trust Accounts.
Dave personally handled a large number of extraditions and appeared in Court in a number of jurisdictions giving expert evidence in criminal and civil trials, arbitration matters, reparation hearings, and employment tribunals.

I had been a bit of an Ellis fan in my rock-influenced teenage years, and it was interesting and a bit surreal to suddenly see him on my television screen leading his big band, dressed in full sixties sartorial regalia.

A lifelong resident of northern California, Dave Ellis has been a visible part of the 1990s Bay Area jazz scene of the 1990s, but is also interested in R&B, funk and rock.
The late 1990s found Ellis (who was featured as a sideman on Dmitri Matheny's 1995 Monarch session Red Reflections) touring with his own group, as well as Ratdog, a band formed by former Grateful Dead member Bob Weir.
In 1998, Ellis released his second album for Monarch titled In the Long Run, produced by veteran Orrin Keepnews, and planned to tour with the Other Ones, an outfit that included Dead alumni Weir and Mickey Hart, as well as Bruce Hornsby.

Dave ended up attending high school in Colorado, and it was there that he got inspired to play guitar and start writing his own songs.

Somewhere along the line, Ellis and former CHT drummer Jay Lane took a long strange musical detour, joining Bob Weir's post-Garcia touring band, Ratdog.
His three original compositions (two co-written with Jeff Chimenti on piano) are each delightful, raising hopes for a record of nothing but originals from the sax legend-in-the-making.
