BBC - Jazz Review - Dave Holland, What Goes Around
There are already quite a few milestone albums in Dave Holland's ECM recording career; Conference of the Birds, his stunning debut as a leader, Jumpin In, which introduced his first quintet, and Points of View, the first album from his current quintet, are just the most obvious ones.
The big band builds on the nucleus provided by Holland's current quintet, keeping the rhythm section of Holland, drummer Billy Kilson and vibist Steve Nelson, and adding three trumpets, two more trombones and three more saxes to the quintet's existing frontline of Chris Potter on alto and Robin Eubanks on trombone.
Dave Holland has put together stellar talent on this date but the album suffers from overplaying and cliches from some of the soloists.
