The Killers (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 2001, Brandon Flowers was abandoned by the first band that he was in, a synth pop band known as Blush Response, after he declined to move with the rest of them to Los Angeles, California.
After he quit, Flowers responded to an ad in the Las Vegas Weekly by future guitarist David Keuning, about forming a band which was inspired by bands such as Oasis, The Cure, New Order, and The Smiths.
(The first bassist was Dave's room mate and the first drummer would later sue the band, claiming that he wrote "Mr.

The Killers, a Las Vegas band composed of Brandon Flowers, Dave Keuning, Mark Stoermer and Ronnie Vannucci is known solely for the song Jenny From The Block Was A Hoe Of Mine which peaked at no. 2 on one (and only) radio station in Afghanistan, and the highest at no. 5,999 elsewhere.
The original and groundbreaking idea of naming the band The Killers came from Dave Keuning, whose ambition of becoming a solo rock-god was "literally killed" by fellow bandmate and Italian mafia godfather and casino-owner, Ronnie Vannucci.
Apparently, Keuning wasn't able to pay back the $10 loaned by Vannucci in support of his slot-machine addiction, hence, his vocal chords and balls were forcibly removed.

Las Vegas SUN: Triple Threat: With three nominations, Killers join high-powered Grammy field
Keuning, who will attend Sunday's Grammy ceremonies at Los Angeles' Staples Center with fellow Killers Brandon Flowers, Mark Stoermer and Ronnie Vannucci, said he's had a tough time sizing up the band's chances of winning.
Keuning wondered whether U2's "Vertigo," which was featured in a TV commercial for Apple's iPod before the band's latest album was available commercially, might have played itself out.
Keuning rated the Killers' odds of taking home a Grammy for Best Rock Song at 10 percent, but added, "I think that our song is for sure better than two or three of them in there.

Formed in Vegas barely two years ago, their sound was catalysed by Flowers's and guitarist Dave Keuning's love of classic British pop, from T. Rex and David Bowie to the Smiths and New Order.
Dave Keuning had moved from Pella, Iowa, to avoid being drafted into his dad's central heating and plumbing business and met Flowers through a small ad.

Today, Keuning, 27 - with the chiseled cheekbones of young Jim Morrison and a tangly mushroom of curly hair that makes the English ladies swoon the same as their mothers did for Marc Bolan of T. Rex - is on the cusp of pop stardom in America.
Yet Keuning was drawn there, by the unglamorous lure of cheap rent; $1,000 a month pays for a plush pad in Vegas, Keuning said, relative to the rat trap that the same money will afford in Los Angeles.
Keuning agrees that life as a Killer on the run can seem like a blur of unfamiliar faces - not that he's itching yet to return to the calm and quiet of his hometown.

Such has been the case for Keuning and Flowers who, along with the tallest bass player in the world, Mark Stoermer, and drummer Ronnie Vannucci, have been busy capitalising on the success of the most surprising debut album to come out of Las Vegas since...
As a dishevelled Flowers stands dejectedly staring into Keuning's rental car, their musical offspring is currently prodding gently against The Scissor Sisters at number two in the UK album charts.
Not bad for a band who not much longer than a year ago were signed to tiny Brit label Lizard King and producing their debut album from the material pulled together in the heat of Keuning's sweltering garage.

The fact Keuning and Flowers wound up finding each other in Sin City — they are joined in the quartet by bassist Mark Stoermer and drummer Ron Vannucci — was probably likely given the pair’s mutual interest in British music.
North American response to Hot Fuss has not been so hot off the mark — but Keuning hopes that, now the group is on its first proper tour of the continent, it will be able to win fans and sell albums.
