Kingman was somewhat unique in his time as far as his power was concerned, but in today's game, that uniqueness would be lost.
Kingman was not at all suited to baseball in the 70s and 80s, he would have been much better off playing in the 1990s.
Kingman was a truly dominant home run hitter and if he were to continue to be a dominant home run hitter, he'd be hitting 55, 60 a year, instead of 35, and that alone would raise his average 30 points.

I remember at one time, when I was a kid in 1977 or 78, Dave Kingman had batted a total of 7 times at Fenway Park and homered in 4 of those at-bats.
Although Kingman is less than his comps in general, he is comparable and it is a good group of players.
I think the unique strangeness of Kingman might rightfully place him in a similar group of players such as Rob Deer, Pete Incavilgia and other sluggers from other eras who were similar in value, but perhaps hit only 2 or 3 hundred homeruns and were just slightly less valuable.

Kingman will probably end up going down as the archetype of the "all or nothing" hitter, who either homered or K'd, and played terrible defense.
How bad Kingman was at other phases of the game, not related to hitting a home run or drawing an occasional walk, may not be apparent to those who never saw him play.
I don't think Kingman should be in the Hall; I started this thread because I have actually talked to a number of Kong devotees who seriously believe he was robbed of Cooperstown.
