 DAVE MASON
My sensitive toes tell me for now that Dave Mason (the album) is in line with the contemporary work of Eric Clapton and George Harrison, minus the enigmatic personality that sometimes elevated their ideas.
Because Mason was mostly a little-s star, it’s easy to see these songs as workmanlike, intelligent but not brilliant, soft line drives contained to the same ballpark.
That said, Mason is clearly a clever songwriter; not Harry Nilsson clever, but good enough to earn the title of singer/songwriter (a title I’m reluctant to accord Jim Capaldi).
