Parker is the kind of guy that fell from his peak to the degree that the only way he was going to make the HOF is if he held on long enough to get 3,000 hits.
Parker may not have been a truly great fielder his whole career, but he was a good one in his prime and he did have a cannon for an arm, with his amazing 26 assists in 1977.

A 5-time All-Star (1976-79, 1981), Foster was a member of the 1970s Big Red Machine, leading the league in home runs in 1977-78, runs batted in from 1976-78, and OPS in 1977.
In 1977, Foster hit 52 home runs, making him the only major league player to belt 50 or more homers in a single season during a 25-year period (between Willie Mays with 52 in 1965 and Cecil Fielder with 51 in 1990).

He was never the best player in baseball (nor even in his league) and I don't know of anyone who ever suggested as much.
Hodges was a very, very good player and, in his prime, I think I'd have to say "yes" to this one.

The evidence is pretty solid that Bowa covered a limited amount of range in the field; he was probably an adequate defensive player, but I don't believe that his defensive skills were good enough to make him an MVP candidate.

Parker was excellent at dodging the batteries fans threw at him towards the end of his Pirate career, so that should count for something.
Parker on human growth hormone (as opposed to cocaine or one of the other popular substances of his day) would have mashed 50-plus home runs and killed five pitchers per year in the late 1970's.

Major League Baseball announced the new Hall of Fame ballot with 15 new players and 17 returnees.
Given that there are now 209 players in the Hall who were elected as players, either by the writers or veterans, if the given player is ranked among the top 209 all-time, one would think that he would fit in at the Hall, Pete Rose notwithstanding.
These are generally speaking players who did many things well but their achievements did not necessarily translate into the countable stats that voters love.
