Dave Ogilvie is a Canadian record producer and musician.
He is a noted producer of industrial music, and has been associated with bands such as Skinny Puppy, Marilyn Manson, Jakalope, and Alexz Johnson.
He is frequently credited as Dave "the Rave" Ogilvie, and should not be confused with Dave Desroches, who used the stage name "Dave Rave" without an additional surname, or with Kevin Ogilvie (also known as Ogre) of Skinny Puppy.

Splendid Magazine reviews The Dave Rave Group: Everyday Magic
First of all, Dave Rave needs to be aware that there is another Dave "Rave" (Ogilvie); the latter's association with the darkness of Skinny Puppy and Ministry could result in a voodoo curse that Mr.
Rave knows when to use a hook, and can divine the exact moment when it wears out its welcome; harmonies are applied at the right time, giving color in the right spots without following the "more is better" pop formula.
Rave's choice of diverse materials works because he knows his abilities and strengths and rarely ventures where he should not tread -- the Elvis impersonation of "Help Me Please" is kitschy enough to work, though the electronica tinged "Jennifer Cries" feels a bit uncomfortable.

Jakalope is the brainchild of Skinny Puppy producer Dave "Rave" Ogilvie, a studio veteran who’s helped out just about every important industrial/nu goth band of the last couple decades, working with Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, David Bowie, Coal Chamber, Front Line Assembly, Einsturzende Neubauten and, er, Sloan, among others.
To form his dream project, Ogilvie recruited a young singer named Katie B., as well as the three Dons of Sons Of Freedom fame (Don Harrison, Don Binns and Don Short) and studio dude Anthony Valcic, who was a member of Moev.
Ogilvie called in favours from many of his past collaborators who were all happy to join in the Jackalope fun.

Ogilvie scripted all the songs on the album, then passed them over for additions to whichever friend happened to be outside his Warehouse studio laboratory.
Even with all its guest parts, the album is surprisingly cohesive; the corrosive yet danceable arrangements flow together seamlessly and although some tracks are decidedly heavier than others, as a whole the collection works.
Ogilvie says keeping things unified was a challenge—he even threw out seven songs that just didn’t fit—but he’s ecstatic about his end result and the work everyone put into it.

Ogilvie was sick of "growly, out-of-tune" male voices and couldn't stand the "cute girl" approach, but he knew the material called for a female singer.
Ogilvie is currently looking for a U.S. deal for It Dreams, available now as an import, and hopes to have the album in stores by year's end.

Jakalope, Dave “Rave” Ogilvie’s project since spring 2003, is the brainchild that spawned from working with bands such as Nine Inch Nails, N.E.R.D, David Bowie, Mötley Crüe, Marilyn Manson, and the Skinny Puppy.
But the most successful track of the album would ironically be Dave Ogilvie’s only vocals on the album appearing under “Bad Dream”, which may carry Jakalope’s true essence as a mysterious band, under the guise of darker lyrics.
It dreams of perhaps less Mandy Moore and more Trent Reznor, but it remains Ogilvie’s project, and whatever comes from the mind of this tormented genius, could be more than surprising.

Chances are you think of Jakalope as the quite successful studio project of industrial Godfather Dave "Rave" Ogilvie, an outfit quickly assembled when Rave was approached about doing an album of his own.
Given the enormous amount of baggage Rave brings with him to Jakalope, the outfit has quickly been pegged as "industrial"–a tag, one would suspect, applied for lack of a better description, and one Biever doesn’t necessarily agree with.
"What Rave does obviously has that feel because that’s what he does, and that’s what he’s known for doing, that’s what he created." But, she points out, there were plenty of other people from various ends of the musical spectrum involved in bringing Jakalope to life–herself included.

Tensions between charismatic front man Nivek Ogre and multi-instrumentalists cEvin Key and Dwayne Rudolph Goettel were high, and when they left their Vancouver based label, Nettwork Records, to sign with L.A. based American recordings, there were more than a few cries of "sell-out" from the industrial community.
Further doubts were raised when the band decided not to use long-time producer and friend, Dave "Rave" Ogilvie, but instead to sign on Ogre’s friend Martin Aktins (Pigface) as producer.
It was only after lengthy legal battles and extensive re-production by Key and Rave that The Process ever even saw the light of day.

With production and mixes by Dave "Rave" Ogilvie (Skinny Puppy, NIN, Marilyn Manson), KMFDM, Razed in Black and others, Genitorturers have insured that the mix quality on this CD is wonderful--definitely on par with any other industrial metal album released in recent times.
Songs like "One Who Feeds" and "Procession" simply do not give Ogilvie enough to work with, and while the Ogilvie/Genitorturers arrangment of the Devinyl's hit "I Touch Myself" is produced immaculately, Gen's voice certainly can't rise to the level of the original, and the instrumentation ultimately cannot carry the song alone.
If a Genitorturer's fan is looking for another few original songs with some excellent production and remixes of past tracks (only 3 of the 8 songs are new), then Machine Love will definitely fill that need.
