Dave Rowntree was born in Colchester on 8 May 1964.
None the less, it was a very musical household and Dave was given a set of bagpipes along with his Janet and John books, surely the act of parents whose love of music and desire to instill the same in their son could brook any agonies.
Dave's facility with sub-routines, bugs and bytes meant that there was plenty of room left in life for music.

 Rowntree Family Crest
First found in Cumberland where they were seated from early times and their first records appeared on the early census rolls taken by the early Kings of Britain to determine the rate of taxation of their subjects.
Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were: James Rowntree settled in Philadelphia in 1798; Brian, James, John, Peter Roundtree arrived in Philadelphia in 1856; William Rountree arrived in Philadelphia in 1860.
In the Rowntree coat of arms as in all coat of arms the crest is only one element of the full armorial achievement.

Rowntree: It wasn't really, no! He's kind of absented himself for the past two or three records, so it was business as usual.
Rowntree: Well, the fact that Graham left did leave a huge great hole in the sound and we discovered that if you left a lot of space rather than filling it up with something else then it made all the other instruments sound a lot bigger.
Rowntree: We hadn't really banked on anything with this record because we were effectively starting again from scratch, so we thought we'd leave all of our options open and see what worked and what didn't.

Las Vegas Weekly: NOISE   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-28)
Albarn, Rowntree and bassist Alex James have been together more than a decade, evolving together and seeing each other through feuds with other (now insignificant) bands, an unavoidable hard-rock anthem, experiments with computers and world music, a cartoon side project and much more.
At this point, on this record, they almost seem to share the same DNA, playing as one, both tight and unwound, knowing that this moment, like all their other moments, shall pass soon, and then it will be time to reinvent themselves once more.
Think Tank holds up well enough that the meanest things the usually pissy British press has had to say about Blur recently is that the guys in the band are fat and old and bald, which are all exaggerations.

While Blur may be on temporary hiatus, drummer Dave Rowntree has been working hard directing a new animated series ‘Empire Sq.’ and spoke exclusively to Xfm about his new creations, life as Blur’s drummer and why it’d be “fantastic” to have a Blur World Exclusive to report.
The series ‘Empire Sq.’ plays on the theory that if ‘video nasties’ could launch the popularity of VCR’s and sites with, ahem, questionable content could popularise the Internet, then an animation series of dubious tastes could become a hit on state of the art mobile phones.
Dave was also dying to give Xfm Online an exclusive insight into the current goings on in the Blur camp, but seemed to suddenly lose the power of speech.
