 Las Vegas City Life
Schwartz demystifies the collective fascination for Las Vegas, showing how the casino industry developed alongside suburbia in America and how the pairing of gambling with luxury resorts fulfilled a desire among Americans for safe entertainment away from the city.
Schwartz sets the record straight about certain assumptions which have long informed the popular mythos of the Strip -- like the nearly universal assumption that the Flamingo was the first casino and that it was started by Ben "Bugsy" Siegel, who lost his life in the endeavor.
Schwartz writes about casinos and Las Vegas with genuine affection, noting on the first page that "'the casino' is not a sybaritic den of vice [and] people who work at casinos don't seem particularly deviant.

In high school Dave and I were on the same bus.
Another great thing about hanging out with Dave was that he had his license, so we would go to McDonald's, as well as Burger King, Arby's, Taco Bell and whatever other fast food they were selling in Roseville along Snelling Avenue.
I always beat the crap out of Dave on the court because he wasn't that coordinated, but afterwards we would lounge in the hot tub and crack too-silly-to-be-ironic jokes, one which went like this.

Casebook: Jack the Ripper - Message Boards: Steamers
After the Schwartz incident, it is my personal interpretation that the Ripper would have left and not carried on the killing, and he certainly wouldn't have shouted to one or two men across the street.
I used to be convinced of my fellow countrywoman Stride's canonical status as a Ripper victim, and that was also why I previously tried to discount Schwartz as a credible witness and instead argued in favour of a second killer after this attack.
So when we're talking about this attack Schwartz witnessed as not fitting in with how we think the Ripper would have behaved, maybe what Schwartz saw had nothing whatever to do with Stride or the Ripper.
