 Dag Nasty - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shawn Brown was the first vocalist, with whom the band recorded (until recently) previously-unreleased versions of most of the material that later made up their first release, "Can I Say," with former roadie and new singer Dave Smalley of DYS.
In 1992, Dag Nasty reformed with Dave Smalley on vocals and released the album Four on the Floor.
In 2002 the band got back together, again with Dave Smalley on the mic, returning the band to an overdone hardcore sound.

Dave's lead vocals on The Choir's "It's Cold Outside" are one of the reasons the track appears on the Rhino Records' box set, "Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic Era, 1965-1968," a collection of the "the first punk rockers" of the 1960s.
Dave Smalley sings the Dan Klawon tune unplugged (just the artist and his acoustic guitar), bringing a new dimension to the '60s classic (The Choir's version, with Dave singing lead, was named by Creem magazine as one of the 100 Best Garage Rock Songs of the 1960s).
Dave's song to his daughter (pictured with him on the CD booklet's back cover) is a thoughtful appraisal of father and child, from birth through adulthood, told with a moderate rock beat and understated orchestration.

AUSTIN -- Maverick Smalley of The Woodlands won seven state titles in record times at the Texas Age Group Swimming Championships en route to the high point award in the 10 and under division, while capturing the Male Swimmer of the Meet Honors.
Smalley swam to the state record in the 50-meter butterfly in 31.21 seconds, 200 freestyle (2:15.98), 50 breast (38.73), 100 free (1:05.18) and 50 free (28.74).

Smalley won the Naval Academy Athletic Association Sword in 1957 as the midshipman of the graduating class who was considered “to have personally excelled in athletics during his years of varsity competition.”
In 1976, Smalley left his post as the men’s coach and later that year was asked to lay the groundwork for a women’s basketball rogram.
Smalley held the title of Assistant Director of Athletics in charge of admissions since 1979 and was promoted to Senior Associate Athletic Director for Admissions, Academics and Compliance in 2001.

In September 1981, as a freshman at BC, David Smalley hung a sign on the bulletin board at the original Newbury Comics in Back Bay Boston: "Experienced singer wants to form band." The result was the band DYS, part of the early punk scene known as the Boston Crew.
During the day, Smalley recalls, he was a more or less typical BC student, albeit, he says, the only punk on campus.
Smalley's lyrics tended toward the politically aware and the self-affirmative, qualities that suffuse his songwriting to this day.

But Smalley is only human, and he must be in love as a love- ballad "Goodnight Song" closes up the album.

Dave Smalley really is an emotional guy on this record with songs like "Wishing Well", "Wrong Again", and "Daveage".
I think Dave Smalley is the singer on this record, who I consider to be the least of All's three lead singers.

Their punk dues have been paid a hundred-fold throughout the last 12 years, beginning with Dave Smalley, and a hardcore band from Boston called DYS.
He then went on to sing for All for one year, on "Allroy Sez" and "Allroy for Prez" and an EP called "Just Perfect." Sam Williams was in Balance and Slap of Reality from Tampa, FL, while Angry John played with LA punk bands the Clay Idols and the Leonards.

Down By Law always seemed to be leader Dave Smalley's weakest project.
Smalley yanking out some hyper punk tunes but also serves up some great songs in the Stiff Little Fingers vein ("Guns of '96") and the Elvis Costello mould ("Question Marks").
Here is Dave Smalley feeling quite comfortable as a 35 yr.

Actually, Dave Smalley has almost made them into a mod band on their latest release.
Dave is pictured on a scooter on the back cover, so I guess this shouldn't surprise.
