Winfield has impressive career statistics, but looking back on him it just never seemed that he lived up to what he could have been.
He was a complete player who could do anything required of him, but his propensity for coming up short in the clutch while with the Yankees led George Steinbrenner to give him the nickname "Mr.May".
There is little doubt that he belongs in the Hall of Fame, but Winfield is a step below the elite players like Aaron, Frank Robinson, Ruth, or Cobb.
